7:00 AM | Hot again today, but more seasonal this weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, hot, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, highs in the low-to-mid 90’s

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, mild, maybe an evening shower or thunderstorm, low 60’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, very warm, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, highs near 90

Saturday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, an isolated evening shower or thunderstorm, mid 60’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, not quite as hot, chance for an afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm, upper 80’s

Monday

Mostly sunny, warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 90

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, very warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 90

Wednesday

Partly sunny, very warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, upper 80’s

Discussion

Upper level high pressure continues to sit just to the west of the region and this will keep us rather dry and hot to close out the work week. However, the weekend will bring a few changes to the overall pattern as several disturbances begin to break down the upper-level ridge in the southwest US and this will lead to more seasonal temperatures across the Central Rockies right into early next week.

7:00 AM | Heat continues away from the coast; cooling trend begins on Sunday

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, lows in the upper 60’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, warm, highs in the upper 70’s near the coast, but higher just inland

Saturday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, fog late, upper 60’s

Sunday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, low 70’s

Monday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, low 70’s

Tuesday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, low 70’s

Wednesday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, low 70’s

Discussion

High pressure will control our weather for the next few days and temperatures will stay above normal through tomorrow; especially, in inland areas where the 90’s are likely. The main axis of hotter-than-normal weather has shifted westward in recent days to the Interior West from the central part of the country. There are signs for an impressive cooling trend to begin on Sunday and for this to continue into the early part of next week.

1:20 PM | Perseid meteor shower peaks this weekend

Paul Dorian

Discussion

The summer’s most exciting display of meteor showers – the Perseids – has already begun as Earth has entered the stream of debris left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle, but it will reach its peak this weekend later Saturday night and early Sunday morning. The moon will rise around 1am and cause some distraction, but, all in all, this is a pretty good year for viewing the meteors as far as the moon is concerned as it will be in a waning crescent phase. The biggest factor for successful viewing conditions is always the cloud cover and there will be some clouds around, but there also can be some clear times as well. If skies permit, there could be up to one meteor each minute streaking across the sky. The Perseids get their name from Perseus, the constellation from which they seem to emanate, but they can appear anywhere in the sky although a focus on the northeastern sky is probably best in the direction of the Perseus constellation (inverted “Y” shape).

7:00 AM | Still hot in inland areas, but a slight cooling trend looks likely late this weekend

Paul Dorian

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, lows in the upper 60’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, warm, highs in the upper 70’s near the coast, but much higher just inland

Friday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, fog late, upper 60’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, warm, highs in the upper 70’s near the coast, but much higher just inland

Sunday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, mid-to-upper 70’s

Monday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, low-to-mid 70’s

Tuesday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, low 70’s

Discussion

High pressure should control our weather for the next few days and temperatures will actually be above normal through Saturday; especially, in inland areas where the 90’s are possible. The main axis of hotter-than-normal weather has shifted westward in recent days to the Interior West from the central part of the country. There are signs for a cooling trend to begin late in the weekend and for this to continue into the early part of next week.

Friday

Discussion

The weekend will bring a few changes to the overall pattern as several disturbances begin to break down the upper-level ridge in the southwest US and this will lead to an increasing threat for showers and thunderstorms as monsoonal moisture gradually returns to the Central Rockies.

Discussion

High pressure should control our weather for much of the week and temperatures will be above normal through the weekend; especially, in inland areas where 90’s are likely each afternoon including in downtown Los Angeles. The main axis of hotter-than-normal weather has shifted westward in recent days to the Interior West from the center part of the country and this new pattern will continue through the weekend. Slight cooling is possible on Sunday.

7:00 AM | Our latest string of 90 degree days continues

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, hot, highs in the low 90's

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, lows in the lower 60’s

Thursday

Mostly sunny, hot, highs in the low-to-mid 90’s

Thursday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, maybe an evening shower or thunderstorm, mid 60’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, hot, chance for an afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm, low-to-mid 90’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, hot, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 90

Sunday

Partly sunny, hot, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Monday

Partly sunny, hot, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Discussion

Upper level high pressure continues just to the west of the region and this will keep us rather dry and hot for the next couple of days. The late week and weekend will bring a few changes to the overall pattern as several disturbances begin to break down the upper-level ridge in the southwest US and this will increase our chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms. Also, temperatures will rise well up into the 90's for the next couple of days, but will likely be confined to highs near 90 degrees this weekend.

7:00 AM | Still pretty hot for today with the chance for more showers and thunderstorms

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Partly sunny, hot, chance for showers and thunderstorms, highs in the low 90's

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, lows in the lower 60’s

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, hot, highs near 90

Wednesday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, low 60’s

Thursday

Mostly sunny, hot, low 90’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, hot, chance for showers and thunderstorms, low 90’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, hot, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Sunday

Mostly sunny, hot, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Discussion

A weak front will pass through the region today giving us the chance for some more shower and thunderstorm activity. Drier air will inhibit the chances for any rain on Wednesday and Thursday and temperatures will reach or slightly surpass the 90 degree mark each day following the low 90's for highs today. Another disturbance will then increase our chances for showers and thunderstorms on Friday to close out the work week.

7:00 AM | A very warm week compared to recent weeks and quite hot inland

Paul Dorian

Tonight

Partly cloudy, cool, fog late, lows in the mid 60’s

Wednesday

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, breezy, mid 70’s along the coast and 90's inland

Saturday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, upper 70’s, much hotter inland

Sunday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, mid-to-upper 70’s

Discussion

High pressure should control our weather for much of the week and temperatures will actually be above normal through the weekend. There will be some late night and early morning marine layer type low clouds and fog, but that should dissipate and allow for some clearing each afternoon. Overall moisture will tend to increase late in the week as the monsoonal flow strengthens again in the southwest US.

Mostly cloudy, mild, slight chance for an evening shower or thunderstorm, low 60’s for lows

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, hot, highs near 90

Tuesday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, slight chance for an evening shower or thunderstorm, low 60’s for lows

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, hot, near 90

Thursday

Mostly sunny, hot, low 90’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, hot, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Saturday

Mostly sunny, hot, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Discussion

The hottest weather this past weekend relative to normal shifted westward to places like Oregon and Washington while the central Rockies enjoyed a cool down. We will return to the 90's this afternoon, but much of the week will see highs right around 90 with no extreme heat expected. Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Ernesto continues to chug along to the west in the Caribbean Sea. It is headed on a path that would take it right into the Yucatan Peninsula section of Mexico. Tropical Depression Florence is situated in the central Atlantic and has weakened recently as it has encountered lots of dry air.
