Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, patchy fog late, lows in the mid 60’s

Wednesday

Fog and clouds early then mostly sunny, pleasant, mid 70’s

Sunday

Fog and clouds early then mostly sunny, pleasant, low-to-mid 70’s

Discussion

Late night and early morning low clouds and fog will give to afternoon clearing each day this week as high pressure controls the weather in the western US for the next several days. There is the chance for a significant warm up late this week as an offshore flow of air develops at the same time low pressure approaches the northwest coast of California.

7:00 AM | Weekend heat relaxes some as we begin the new week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Fog and clouds early then some afternoon clearing, warm, mid-to-upper 70’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, patchy fog late, lows in the mid 60’s

Tuesday

Fog and clouds early then partly sunny, warm, mid-to-upper 70’s

Friday

Fog and clouds early then gradual clearing, pleasant, upper 70’s

Discussion

Upper level high pressure will build in the western states this week and there will be little changes from day-to-day in our region. Some warming may occur late in the week as the ridge tries to build and expand westward, but in general, high temperatures this week along the coast should hold in the 70’s.

7:00 AM | Cool way to start off the week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Partly sunny, pleasantly cool, highs in the mid 60’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, chilly, lows by morning in the mid 40’s

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, warmer, highs in the upper 70’s

Tuesday Night

Discussion

Temperatures will on the cool side to start the new work week with highs generally confined to the mid 60’s along with some partial sunshine. A generally dry NW flow of air around here this week will be sandwiched between much more unstable weather centered over the Great Lakes and a strong ridge of high pressure that will build along the west coast.

7:00 AM | Extremely warm weather closes out the work week and begins the weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny skies, warm, low 80’s near the coast and even warmer inland

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, lows in the upper 60’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny skies, continued warm, low-to-mid 80’s near the coast and much warmer inland

Saturday Night

Mostly clear, mild, upper 60’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny skies, not quite as warm, mid-to-upper 70’s

Monday

Fog and clouds early then gradual clearing, pleasant, mid 70’s

Tuesday

Fog and clouds early then gradual clearing, pleasant, mid 70’s

Wednesday

Fog and clouds early then mostly sunny, pleasant, mid 70’s

Discussion

Weak offshore flow will cause a significant warm up today; especially, for inland regions. This warm up will continue on Saturday, but a cooling trend will emerge on Sunday and continue into early next week. With the cooler temperatures will come a return to some marine layer air by early next week causing some late night and early morning low clouds and fog at and near the coast.

7:00 AM | Cool shot gives way to a rebound in temperatures, but then another cooling trend begins on Monday

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, pleasant, highs in the low-to-mid 70’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, chilly, lows by morning in the upper 40’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, warmer, highs in the low-to-mid 80’s

Saturday Night

Mostly clear, cool, low 50’s

Sunday

Mainly sunny, comfortable, low 80's

Monday

Partly sunny, noticeably cooler, maybe a couple of showers, mid-to-upper 60’s

Tuesday

Partly sunny, cool, near 70

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, pleasant, upper 70’s

Discussion

Temperatures will rebound over the next couple of days, but then another strong cold front is setting its sights on the central Rockies by early next week. After high temperatures climb back to near or just above 80 degrees this weekend, a frontal passage will cause temperatures to retreat on Monday with highs likely once again confined to the 60’s for the region to start the new work week.

7:00 AM | Cool shot continues today, but a rebound in temperatures will take place this weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly cloudy this morning and then some PM clearing, quite cool, chance for a couple more showers, highs in the mid 60’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, chilly, lows by morning in the low 40’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, cool, highs in the low 70’s

Friday Night

Mostly clear, cool, upper 40’s

Saturday

Mainly sunny, warmer, low 80’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, comfortable, near 80

Monday

Partly sunny, cooler, maybe a couple of showers, upper 60’s

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, cool, low-to-mid 70’s

Discussion

A strong upper level trough of low pressure will move to the east of the area today and this will allow for some drying to take place following yesterday’s soaking rain although another shower or two cannot be ruled out. Temperatures will remain quite cool, but will then rebound as we approach the weekend. Another front could begin a new cooling trend early next week.

7:00 AM | Very warm to close out the week and to begin the weekend, but cooling trend sets in early next week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Early morning patchy fog is possible followed by gradual clearing, warm, breezy, highs in the mid 70’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, lows in the mid 60’s

Friday

Mostly sunny skies, warm, mid 80’s near the coast and even warmer inland

Friday Night

Mostly clear, mild, upper 60’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny skies, warm, low 80’s near the coast, even warmer inland

Sunday

Fog and clouds early then gradual clearing, not as warm, mid 70’s

Monday

Fog and clouds early then gradual clearing, low-to-mid 70’s

Tuesday

Fog and clouds early then gradual clearing, low-to-mid 70’s

Discussion

High pressure will take control of our weather pattern today and this will lead to warm up for Friday and Saturday when highs will reach the low-to-mid 80’s all the way to the coast with even higher values inland. The high pressure will retreat some by later Sunday and a cooling trend will begin early next week as low pressure approaches the region.

11:50 AM | Solar cycle 24 continues on a track that will make it the least active sunspot cycle in more than one hundred years

Paul Dorian

Discussion

We are now a few years into the current solar cycle, 24, which began during 2008, and it is becoming increasingly clear as to where it stands in term of relative strength compared to other cycles. The current predicted and observed size of solar cycle 24 makes this the least active cycle since Cycle 14 which reached a maximum in February of 1906 – more than one hundred years ago. Despite the fact that we are heading towards an expected solar maximum during the mid-to-latter part of 2013, the sun has been relatively calm during the past several weeks. The increasingly likely outcome for a weak solar cycle continues the recent downward trend in sunspot cycle strength that began with solar cycle 22 over twenty years ago. Additionally, there are some solar scientists who are already predicting that the next solar cycle, 25, will be even weaker than the current one sometime later this decade or in the 2020’s. While a weaker cycle does not rule out the threat for strong solar storms, it does suggest that they will occur less often than during the stronger and more active cycles. Meanwhile, at the same time the sun appears to be in a period of weakening sunspot cycles, the northern Pacific Ocean has appeared to have entered a long-term colder phase which can last up to a few decades. There is some belief that suggests that the combination of a cold northern Pacific Ocean along with the weakening solar sunspot cycles may ultimately have a negative impact on global temperatures and we'll continue to track it here at thesiweather.com.

7:00 AM | Quite warm by the end of the week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Early morning fog and possible drizzle, remaining mostly cloudy for the afternoon, highs in the low-to-mid 70’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, lows in the mid 60’s

Thursday

Fog early then becoming partly sunny, warm, mid-to-upper 70’s

Thursday Night

Mostly clear, mild, upper 60’s

Friday

Mostly sunny skies, very warm, low 80’s near the coast, even warmer inland

Saturday

Mostly sunny skies, very warm, low 80’s near the coast, even warmer inland

Sunday

Mostly sunny skies, not as warm, upper 70's

Monday

Mostly sunny skies, pleasant, low-to-mid 70’s

Discussion

Upper level high pressure builds into California later today and this will lead to much warmer temperatures by the end of the week. Clouds will hold down temperatures somewhat for today, but Friday and Saturday promise to feature temperatures in the 80's near the coast and even warmer inland. A cooling trend should set in early next week and continue into mid-week.
