7:00 AM | Dry pattern continues and temperatures will be quite moderate; Leonid meteor shower peaks in the pre-dawn hours

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Partly sunny, becoming warmer after a cold start, highs in the upper 50's

Tonight

Partly cloudy, cold, lows in the low 30’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, warm, upper 50's

Saturday Night

Mostly clear, chilly, low 30’s

Sunday

Mainly sunny, mild, mid-to-upper 50’s

Monday

Partly sunny, mild, mid-to-upper 50’s

Tuesday

Partly sunny, mild, upper 50’s

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, warm, low 60’s

Discussion

An upper level high pressure ridge continues across the region and the overall flow in the upper atmosphere will be generally from west-to-east. This pattern will keep the region dry with no precipitation in sight and temperatures will be quite mild as Arctic air will be unable to penetrate this far south as it will be blocked by the nearly zonal flow over the next several days. Looking ahead to Turkey Day, from this vantage point it looks quite favorable with partial sunshine and afternoon temperatures generally in the 50's. One final note - the annual Leonid meteor shower will peak in the pre-dawn hours (2-6am) with favorable viewing conditions expected.

1:45 PM | A recent increase in the number of sunspots

Paul Dorian

Discussion

The sun currently has numerous visible sunspots and some are directly facing the Earth which means any eruption in the next few days could very well have an effect on the Earth’s upper atmosphere. The most likely source for a near term solar flare is from an active sunspot officially called AR1613 which has an unstable magnetic field and is now directly facing the Earth. NOAA forecasters estimate a 40% chance of an “M-class” solar flare and a 5% chance of an “X-class” (biggest type) in the next day or so. There was a moderately strong eruption on the sun a few days which resulted in a coronal mass ejection that caused northern lights to be seen in southern Canada and portions of the northern US. The current solar cycle (#24) is expected to reach a maximum later next year.

7:00 AM | Dry pattern continues with no precipitation in sight

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, chilly, highs near 50 degrees

Tonight

Partly cloudy, cold, lows in the upper 20’s

Friday

Partly sunny, warmer, near 60

Friday Night

Mostly clear, chilly, low 30’s

Saturday

Sunday

Partly sunny, mild, mid-to-upper 50’s

Monday

Partly sunny, mild, mid-to-upper 50’s

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, warm, upper 50's

Discussion

An upper level high pressure ridge will move across the region and the overall flow in the upper atmosphere will be quite zonal (west-to-east). This pattern will keep the region dry with no precipitation in sight and temperatures will be quite moderate as Arctic air will be blocked by the zonal flow from moving this far south over the next several days.

7:00 AM | Pattern turns cooler with an increased chance for showers from tonight right through much of the weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly cloudy with some fog early, cooler, highs in the mid 60’s

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, cool, showers likely, lows in the mid 50’s

Friday

Mostly cloudy, cool, showers likely, low 60’s

Friday Night

Mostly cloudy, cool, showers possible, mid 50’s

Saturday

Mostly cloudy, showers likely, cool, low 60’s

Sunday

Mostly cloudy, cool, chance for more showers, low 60’s

Monday

Partly sunny, cool, low-to-mid 60’s

Tuesday

Discussion

Below normal temperatures can be expected for the remainder of the week and also for the weekend as upper level low pressure approaches the area from the west. There will also be an increased threat for showers from tonight right into the latter part of the weekend. The pattern turns drier and warmer next week following the passage of the low pressure area that will affect our weather from later today through the weekend.

7:00 AM | Dry pattern continues with no precipitation in sight

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Partly sunny, cool, mid-to-upper 50’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, chilly, lows in the upper 20’s

Thursday

Mostly sunny, colder, near 50

Thursday Night

Mostly clear, cold, upper 20’s

Friday

Mainly sunny, milder, upper 50’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, cool, mid 50’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, cool, mid-to-upper 50’s

Monday

Mostly sunny, cool, mid-to-upper 50’s

Discussion

A dry flow of air out of the northwest will continue for the next few days and a consequence will be that precipitation is not in the picture. This dry pattern will likely continue right through the upcoming weekend as well. Temperatures will try to rise above the seasonal levels for today, but will likely drop back to below normal for Thursday.

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, warm, highs in the low-to-mid 70’s

Tonight

Mostly clear early, some clouds and fog late, cool, lows near 55 degrees

Thursday

Mostly cloudy, cooler, mid-to-upper 60's

Saturday

Partly sunny, cool, maybe a shower, mid 60’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, cool, low-to-mid 60’s

Monday

Partly sunny, cool, mid 60’s

Discussion

An offshore flow of air will continue for another day around here, but then an approaching low pressure system will bring increasing clouds on Thursday along with cooler temperatures. Showers are possible by Thursday night and Friday and this threat of showers with this new low pressure system will continue into the weekend along with the cooler conditions.

7:00 AM | Another pleasant couple of days, but it'll get cooler later this week with an increased chance for showers

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, pleasant, highs in the low-to-mid 70’s

Tonight

Mostly clear, cool, lows near 50 degrees

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, pleasant, low-to-mid 70’s

Wednesday Night

Mostly clear, cool, some fog possible late, mid 50’s

Thursday

Partly sunny, pleasant, near 70

Friday

Mostly cloudy, cool, showers possible, upper 60’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, cool, upper 60’s

Sunday

7:00 AM | Still dry and chilly with mainly below normal temperatures

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mainly sunny, still chilly, highs in the low 50’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, cold, lows in the mid-to-upper 20’s

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, chilly, mid 50’s

Wednesday Night

Mostly clear, cold, upper 20’s

Thursday

Mainly sunny, cold, upper 40’s

Friday

Partly sunny, not quite as cold, low 50’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, chilly, low 50’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, chilly, low 50’s

Discussion

Normal highs for Denver are around 54 degrees and we'll fall just short of that for much of the week although the best chance of matching it will likely by on Wednesday. Most systems that will pass near the region this week will be rather weak and moisture-starved; consequently, precipitation will be quite unlikely for the next several days.

7:00 AM | A very cold start, but not as extreme this afternoon

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mainly sunny, a very cold start, but not as extreme this afternoon, highs in the upper 40’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, cold, mid-to-upper 20’s

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, cold, low 50’s

Tuesday Night

Mostly clear, cold, upper 20’s

Thursday

Partly sunny, chilly, low 50’s

Friday

Partly sunny, chilly, low 50’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, chilly, low 50’s

Discussion

Moderation will take place early this week with respect to the recent temperature pattern, but we’ll still be generally below normal for this time of year. Normal highs for Denver are around 55 degrees and we’ll only come close to that on Wednesday, but then we’ll likely fall short during the late week time frame as the cool down in the western US continues.
