7:00 AM | Much more reasonable high temperatures to start the new week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Partly sunny, comfortably warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, highs near 80 degrees

Tonight

Partly cloudy, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, cooler, lows in the mid 50’s

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, comfortably warm, slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 80

Tuesday Night

Mostly cloudy, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, mild, upper 50’s

Wednesday

Partly sunny, pleasant, low 80’s

Thursday

Partly sunny, pleasant, low-to-mid 80’s

Friday

Partly sunny, warm, slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, upper 80’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, very warm, near 90

Discussion

Strong high pressure ridging in the upper atmosphere has gradually shifted towards the west coast over the past 48 hours and this has developed an increasing northerly flow over Colorado. The result is a downward trend in temperatures and an increasing influx of moisture from the southern part of the country. Temperatures will be much more seasonal for the next few days, but could flirt with the 90 degree mark again by the end of the week.

6-Day Forecast

Today

Fog early then becoming mostly sunny, breezy, very warm, highs near 80 degrees along the coast and much warmer inland

Tonight

Mostly clear, breezy, mild, lows in the mid-to-upper 60’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, very warm, low 80’s along the coast and much warmer inland

Saturday Night

Mostly clear, mild, upper 60’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, very warm, low 80’s along the coast and much warmer inland

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, still warm, but a bit cooler than Monday, mid-to-upper 70’s

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, pleasant, low-to-mid 70’s

Discussion

Strong high pressure will build over the area and control our weather until early next week. The result will be a major heat wave that will likely generate 100+ degrees for interior locations. In fact, record highs are possible this weekend at many inland locations while coastal regions experience very warm conditions in the low 80’s.

7:00 AM | Downward trend in temperatures from this weekend into the middle of next week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, still hot, but not as extreme as Thursday, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, highs in the low 90's

Tonight

Partly cloudy, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, mild, lows in the low 60’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, very warm, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, upper 80’s

Saturday Night

Partly cloudy, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, mild, low 60’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, warm, slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, mid 80’s

Mostly sunny, warm, slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, low 80’s

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, warm, slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 80

Wednesday

Partly sunny, warm, slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, upper 70's

Discussion

Strong high pressure ridging in the upper atmosphere will generate northwest flow around here and this will help to begin a downward trend in temperatures across the southern Rockies. Additionally, some sub-tropical moisture will advance northward into the southern Rockies allowing for the possibility for isolated showers and thunderstorms over the next few days. By the middle of next week, high temperatures may not even reach 80 degrees compared to the mid 90’s experienced around here during the past couple of days.

7:00 AM | After today's excessive heat, a gradual downward trend in temperatures over the next several days

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, continued hot, elevated fire danger continues in the region, highs in the mid-to-upper 90’s

Tonight

Mostly clear, mild, lows in the low 60’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, still hot, but not as excessive as Thursday, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Friday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, low 60’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, very warm, slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, upper 80’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, warm, slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, mid 80’s

Monday

Mostly sunny, warm, slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, mid 80’s

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, warm, slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, low-to-mid 80’s

Discussion

An extensive and strong upper level high pressure ridge will build westward into the interior western states over the next couple of days and the result will be a small shift in wind direction in the southern Rockies from southwest to northwest. This subtle change in wind direction might actually allow for some low level moisture to advance northward into Colorado by the end of the week and this will act to gradually increase our chances for showers and thunderstorms. Also, the northwest flow of air will act to promote a downward trend in temperatures with highs by early next week likely confined to the low and middle 80’s.

6-Day Forecast

Today

Early morning low clouds and fog then becoming partly sunny, breezy, milder, highs in the middle 70’s

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, breezy, mild, some fog late, lows in the mid 60’s

Friday

Patchy fog early then becoming mostly sunny, warmer, near 80

Friday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, some fog late, upper 60’s

Monday

Patchy fog early then becoming mostly sunny, still warm, near 80

Tuesday

Patchy fog early then becoming mostly sunny, not quite warm, mid-to-upper 70’s

Discussion

An extensive and strong upper level ridge will build westward into the interior western states over the next couple of days and the result will be a major warm up across southern California; especially, at inland locations. Temperatures will climb to or slightly above 80 degrees along coastal sections by the weekend and to perhaps record levels at inland locations at or above 100 degrees. The hot weather looks like it will last into early next week as the upper level ridge remains in control in the western states.

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, continued hot, elevated fire danger continues in the region, highs in the mid-to-upper 90’s

Tonight

Mostly clear, mild, lows in the low 60’s

Thursday

Mostly sunny, still hot, low-to-mid 90’s

Thursday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, low 60’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, hot, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Saturday

Mostly sunny, very warm, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, upper 80's

Sunday

Mostly sunny, very warm, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, mid-to-upper 80's

Monday

Mostly sunny, very warm, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, mid 80’s

Discussion

An extensive and strong upper level high pressure ridge will build westward into the interior western states over the next couple of days and the result will be a small shift in wind direction in the southern Rockies from southwest to northwest. This subtle change in wind direction might actually allow for some low level moisture to advance northward into Colorado by the end of the week and this will act to slightly increase our chances for showers and thunderstorms and should shave a few degrees off of the afternoon high temperatures. In fact, the trend in temperatures is down after today's expected readings in the mid-to-upper 90's so that by early next week middle 80's is likely to be more commonplace for highs.

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, breezy, mild, some fog late, lows in the low-to-mid 60’s

Thursday

Patchy fog early then becoming mostly sunny, breezy, warmer, mid 70’s

Thursday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, some fog late, low-to-mid 60’s

Discussion

An extensive and strong upper level ridge will build westward into the interior western states over the next couple of days and the result will be a significant warm up across southern California; especially, at inland locations. Temperatures will easily climb through the 70’s later this week and weekend along coastal regions and much higher at inland locations where near record highs are possible in some areas.

7:00 AM | Serious and significant warm up for the second half of the week and it could last into next week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Early morning low clouds, fog and possible drizzle then becoming mostly sunny, breezy, cool, highs in the upper 60’s

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, breezy, mild, some fog late, lows in the low 60’s

Wednesday

Patchy fog early then becoming mostly sunny, milder, low 70’s

Wednesday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, some fog late, low-to-mid 60’s

Thursday

Patchy fog early then becoming mostly sunny, warm, mid 70’s

Friday

Patchy fog early then mostly sunny skies, warm, mid-to-upper 70’s

Saturday

Patchy fog early then mostly sunny skies, warm, upper 70’s

Sunday

Patchy morning fog then mostly sunny skies, warm, upper 70’s

Discussion

Cooler-than-normal weather continues for another day, but strong high pressure is likely to build in overhead for the second half of the week. In fact, strong upper level ridging will expand westward at all levels of the atmosphere later this weekn and the result will be a significant warming trend for much of the west. Temperatures by Thursday and Friday should climb well up into the 70’s along coastal regions as the high pressure system takes control of our weather pattern and diminishes the onshore flow of air for awhile and interior locations could see the 90's by Friday afternoon.

7:00 AM | Hot, dry pattern continues; a slight increase in moisture possible at the end of the week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, continued hot, elevated fire danger continues in the region, highs near 90 degrees

Tonight

Mostly clear, mild, lows in the low 60’s

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, still hot, low 90’s

Wednesday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, low 60’s

Thursday

Mostly sunny, hot, low 90’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, hot, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Saturday

Mostly sunny, hot, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Sunday

Mostly sunny, hot, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Discussion

Hot and dry weather will continue here in the southern Rockies over the next few days as persistent southwest flow continues with an upper level trough in the northwestern part of the country. The threat for showers and thunderstorms will be quite small; consequently, elevated fire danger risks will continue for the next few days and there will be areas of smoke due to current on-going wildfires. There is the chance for a shift in the winds late this week to more of a northwesterly direction which could actually allow for some more sub-tropical moisture to advance into Colorado at the end of the week. This change in winds will help to increase the chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms at the end of the week and during the upcoming weekend and high temperatures may be a couple of degrees lower compared to the next few days.

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, breezy, mild, some fog and drizzle late, lows near 60 degrees

Tuesday

Thursday

Patchy fog early then mostly sunny skies, warmer, near 75

Friday

Patchy fog early then mostly sunny skies, warm, near 75

Saturday

Patchy morning fog then mostly sunny skies, warm, upper 70's

Discussion

Cool, damp weather begins the week in southern California, but strong high pressure is likely to build in overhead later this week. As a result, a significant warming trend will take place later this week after the below normal start to the week. Temperatures by Thursday and Friday should climb well up into the 70’s along coastal regions as the high pressure system takes control of our weather pattern and diminishes the onshore flow of air for awhile.
