9:00 AM Severe weather threat late this afternoon and early tonight

Paul Dorian

Severe thunderstorms are possible later today or early tonight as a cool front slips southward from eastern Canada. Some of the storms will contain damaging winds, hail and heavy downpours and should affect the region anytime between 3 and 10 PM. Once the front slides by to our south by later tomorrow, humidities may drop a tad temporarily, but then excessive heat and humidity will advance towards the region for the 2nd half of the week. In fact, temperatures here on Thursday and Friday are likely to reach at least 95 degrees as the flood gates will be opened for the scorching heat that has been confined to the middle of the country to move northeastward to the Mid-Atlantic coast. The weekend offers a little hope in the temperatures across the New York City region as a back door” cool front may bring in slightly lower temperatures from our northeast. Today- partly sunny, hot and humid, good chance for strong-to-severe thunderstorms after 3PM, highs in the low 90’s

Tonight- strong-to-severe thunderstorms early tonight, some of the storms will contain damaging winds, hail and heavy rain, low 70’s late

Tues- partly sunny, very warm and a bit less humid, slight chance for another shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Wed- partly sunny, very warm, upper 80’s

Thurs- partly sunny, very hot and humid with an isolated thunderstorm, near 95

Fri- mainly sunny, very hot and humid with an isolated thunderstorm, near 95

Sat- partly sunny, not quite as hot, an isolated thunderstorm, near 90
