Discussion
A significant and slow-moving rain event is headed to the DC region for Sunday and Monday. Today will continue to feature pleasant weather with full sunshine as high pressure continues to control the Mid-Atlantic weather pattern. Temperatures and humidity levels will again be rather comfortable and that pleasant weather continues tonight. In fact, the skies should cooperate for the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower late tonight. A full moon, however, is expected to interfere somewhat with the viewing of the annual meteor shower this year. By tomorrow, our high pressure system will slowly move off the coast and this will open the door for a slow-moving storm system to move in from the west. While a shower or thunderstorm is possible late in the day on Saturday and again Saturday night, the bulk of the rainfall from this next system will fall on Sunday, Sunday night and Monday, and, when all is said and done, this will likely turn out to be a significant rain event with a few inches of total rainfall not out of the question for some Mid-Atlantic locations between Saturday night and Tuesday morning. Elsewhere, the tropical Atlantic continues to heat up as there are now three different areas of disturbed weather that will have to be monitored over the next several days.
