High pressure continues to control our weather and we’ll experience another nice day in the Mid-Atlantic with comfortable humidity levels. The high moves off the coast by the weekend and a low pressure system with its associated frontal systems will head into the East and make our weather somewhat unsettled and humid for the weekend and on Labor Day. In fact, a shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out for both weekend days and there could be some decent rainfall on Labor Day associated with a frontal passage. Meanwhile, the tropics are still rather active and Tropical Storm “Katia” is slowly churning its way westward in the Atlantic. It may become a strong hurricane within the next few days, but it won’t affect the US east coast until later next week - if ever. There are some indications that it will eventually make a turn to the north and then northeast staying away from the east coast; however, it is simply too far away to write it off. Elsewhere, low pressure may form in the Gulf of Mexico over the next few days and this could develop into a tropical system that threatens the Gulf Coast and will have to be monitored.
