Discussion

Some fog is spread around the Delaware Valley this morning which is rather appropriate weather since the Phillies have been playing in a fog for the last few days - all of this is only temporary of course. The more important weather story is that a prolonged period of unsettled weather is shaping up for the Mid-Atlantic region and this pattern is likely to generate some heavy rain at times from later this week into next week. A vigorous and slow-moving upper level low will drop southeastward from the Upper Midwest to the Ohio Valley over the next several days and it will likely spawn a few surface low pressure systems that will ride up along a stalled out frontal system during the late week, weekend and into early next week. The first threat for heavy showers and thunderstorms from this pattern will be in the late Thursday/Friday time period. This upper level low will move so slowly that it is likely that our unsettled weather pattern will last right through the upcoming weekend and even into the early-to-middle part of next week.
