Discussion
The stubborn low pressure system that has been painfully stuck over the Midwest for the last several days may send us a couple more showers and thunderstorms later today ahead of a strong cold front that passes through on Friday. This latest rainfall event has pushed the September total rainfall amount to over 10 inches at Philly International Airport making it the first time there have been double digit totals in back-to-back months. Once this system finally lifts out by tomorrow, the overall weather pattern will change dramatically to much cooler conditions over the weekend. The initial push of colder air may cause some clouds and instability showers on Saturday and it actually could be cold enough in some of the highest elevations of the Northeast (Poconos, Catskills) to see some snowflakes mixing in with the showers. Winds will also be quite noticeable on Saturday with gusts of 10-20 mph quite common from the north or northwest. A stiff breeze continues on Sunday, but the weather gets calmer and sunnier as we progress through the early part of next week.
