Discussion

A very compact intensifying Nor’easter will spread precipitation into the region today in the form of rain or snow or a mixture and then this will change to all snow during the late afternoon or early evening hours and continue into the overnight hours predominately in the form of snow. Winds will gradually intensify during the day with gusts peaking at 60 mph later this afternoon and tonight. Accumulations by later tonight will end up in the 3-6 inch range just north and west of town (eg interior northern New Jersey, Southern CT) and 2-4 inches in the immediate New York City region. Unfortunately, more power outages are possible given the expected heavy, wet snow combined with the strong wind gusts. Temperatures will slowly drop through the 30’s later today after the precipitation gets underway. Finally, the weekend still looks quite nice with sunshine both days and temperatures near 60 degrees for highs.
