1:45 PM | Greatest threat for Mid-Atlantic accumulating snow later tomorrow extends from the southern part of the DC metro region to the Delmarva to the South Jersey

We’ve talked about the threat for three storms this week in an increasingly colder atmosphere (first one all rain, second one rain and ice, third one to be mainly snow), and how the third storm could move farther north despite the computer forecast models “southern” storm track (typical “southeast bias”). It does now looks like this storm will move farther north at the same time colder air is pouring in from the northwest. While the Philly and NYC metro regions are still on the far northwest edge of the expected precipitation field, there is an increasing threat for accumulating snow across the DC metro region, much of Virginia, the Delmarva Peninsula and South Jersey. The precipitation could begin as rain in these areas, but should change to accumulating snow by later tomorrow and continue tomorrow night. Accumulations on the order of 2-4 inches are in the realm of possibility from the southern part of the DC metro region to the Delmarva Peninsula to the South Jersey Shoreline from later tomorrow through tomorrow night. For now, it looks as if the Philly and NYC metro regions will receive at most a minor snowfall. Quite cold air moves in throughout the Mid-Atlantic region behind the storm on Friday, but that cold quickly retreats this weekend only to be followed by much colder air for the early and middle parts of next week – the coldest of the season so far.
