A line of severe thunderstorms is closing in on the DC metro region from the western Virginia suburbs and it may contain damaging wind gusts of 60 mph or more as well as torrential downpours. A tornado watch has been issued by the NWS for the DC metro region, and much of Virginia and Maryland (from Charlottesville to the PA/MD border) as this particular line is quite dangerous and could spawn a few tornadoes. Flash flooding is quite likely over the next couple of hours throughout the DC region as this line moves through. Do not drive on any road that is covered by water as there is simply no way to tell how deep the water is. Best advice – stay indoors, away from windows. This line is moving in a general northeast direction and could affect Philly and NYC metro regions later this evening.
