3:45 PM | More accumulating snow now closing in on the Mid-Atlantic region

Paul Dorian

Discussion

The next in a long series of fast-moving clipper systems is now closing in on the Mid-Atlantic region and there will be more accumulating snow between late today and early tomorrow. Snow is already falling across western Pennsylvania and West Virginia and some of those areas could get several inches of snow over the next few hours. This system will lose some of its punch as it crosses the mountains; nonetheless, accumulating snow on the order of a coating to two inches or so will reach the big cities of DC, Baltimore, Philly and NYC. As with the earlier clipper systems, there is a slight chance for some embedded heavier bands that could boost snowfall amounts and we'll monitor that at "thesiweather.com" over the next several hours. Snow should begin in the DC region between about 4 and 6pm, in Philly later this evening after about 8 or 9pm. The NYC snowfall will occur primarily after midnight and into the early morning hours. Untreated roads will become slippery as temperatures will be well below freezing during this event.
