9:30 AM | *Some afternoon snow and sleet in eastern PA, interior NJ, NYC metro region*
Paul Dorian
Temperatures are starting the day generally below freezing in the Philly and NYC metro regions and they won’t climb much at all today as low-level Arctic air is now firmly entrenched in the area. Precipitation should arrive in these metro regions somewhere around the noon or 1pm time frame moving from southwest-to-northeast and it should continue on and off into the evening; primarily, as a mix of snow and sleet. Freezing rain can mix in at times; especially, late in the day and during the evening, but snow and sleet should dominate for much of the afternoon. Anywhere from a coating to an inch snow is possible this afternoon and evening across eastern PA, interior NJ, and the NYC metro region. There can also be a touch of icing left on the ground and also on untreated surfaces. Travel conditions can get slippery this afternoon and evening on any untreated road surfaces and bridges. The precipitation winds down during the late evening hours.
Temperatures at 9am ranged from 29 at Pottstown to 33 degrees at Philly Airport. Do not be surprised to see the temperature drop a couple of degrees during the onset of the precipitation at mid-day or early afternoon. The latest hourly loop of a high-resolution computer forecast model (HRRR) shows the precipitation in this region for the afternoon and evening hours.
