12Z Euro snowfall totals for upcoming event

The chance for an all-out snowstorm from Philly to Boston is growing and accumulating snow is likely to extend all the way into the DC metro region.  Upper-level energy is looking more and more impressive out in the northwestern US and this will act as a catalyst to form low pressure near the Mid-Atlantic region later tomorrow.  Colder air will push in tomorrow night and rain or a wintry mix during the first half of Wednesday night is likely going to change to snow from after midnight from northwest-to-southeast.  The snow is likely to fall heavily at times early Thursday and accumulate quite rapidly and then taper off during the early-to-mid afternoon.  Travel is quite likely going to be impacted greatly on Thursday; especially, for the morning commute. Accumulations of 6 inches or more are on the table for the Philly and NYC metro regions and this threat could extend closer to the DC metro region if current trends continue.

A final note…this snowfall is quite likely going to end up clinging to tree branches and bushes as the rainfall at the onset will wet everything and this will allow the heavy, wet snow to cling quite well. While this potential scenario could lead to a very pretty snowfall, it could also lead to extra weight on branches that potentially will result in downed limbs.

Stay tuned.
