Discussion

In a pattern somewhat similar to last week, comfortable weekend weather in the Mid-Atlantic region will be followed by more humid and somewhat unsettled weather as we progress through the work week. It won’t turn out quite as wet as last week, however, and this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will feature some of the hottest weather so far this season with high temperatures reaching or slightly surpassing the 90 degree mark. High pressure will move offshore today and this will allow our weather to be influenced by multiple frontal systems over the next few days and this pattern will lead to a daily low-to-moderate threat for showers and thunderstorms.

Discussion

Unsettled weather will continue for one more day in the Mid-Atlantic before yet another nice weekend continues the recent string of pleasant weekends. A cool front will push to the east today across the Ohio Valley and showers and thunderstorms will be the result around here. Any shower that forms ahead of the front can produce heavy rainfall and any thunderstorm later today can be on the strong side. Once the cool front passes off the east coast early tomorrow, NW breezes will usher in drier air and the more comfortable conditions will continue on Sunday as well. It’ll turn warmer and somewhat unsettled during the early and middle parts of next week and there is a good chance that temperatures will reach the 90 degree mark for highs in the DC metro region.

7:00 AM | **The threat continues for heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms**

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Friday

Mostly cloudy, warm, humid, showers and thunderstorms likely, some of the rain can be heavy at times, low-to-mid 80’s

Friday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, showers and thunderstorms possible early, clearing late, low 60’s

Saturday

Becoming partly-to-mostly sunny, breezy, more comfortable with lowering humidity, near 80

Sunday

Mostly sunny, warm, low 80’s

Monday

Mostly sunny, very warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, upper 80’s

Tuesday

Partly sunny, very warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 90

Discussion

A weak frontal system has settled back to the south of the metro region and a cold front to our west is expected to arrive in the area late tomorrow. The combination of these two frontal systems will keep us very unsettled through tomorrow night and the result will be numerous showers and thunderstorms. Any shower that forms over the next 36 hours or so can produce torrential downpours and any thunderstorm can reach strong-to-severe levels. Localized flash flooding can occur with heavy rainfall piling up in a given location over a short period of time. Our weekend winning streak in the Mid-Atlantic region will continue as high pressure settles into the area. Humidity will lower on Saturday with the return of sunshine and a northwest breeze and Sunday promises to be quite nice with plenty of sunshine and comfortable conditions. Much warmer air will move into the region early next week with 90 degrees possible for highs in parts of the area.

Monday

Partly sunny, warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, mid-to-upper 80’s

Discussion

A weak frontal system will hang around the region for another day and then lift northward as a warm front on Thursday. A cold front will then approach the region late Friday and all of this will keep our weather quite unsettled through the rest of the work week. Any shower or thunderstorm that forms during the next few days can produce heavy rainfall amounts in a short period of time along with localized flooding conditions. It appears the timing is just right once again for another nice weekend in the Mid-Atlantic region. The weekend weather should feature noticeable improvement with lowering humidity values as high pressure settles into the area.

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, mild, muggy, chance for showers and thunderstorms, lows in the upper 60’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, warm, low-to-mid 80’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, warm, mid 80’s

Discussion

Unsettled weather will be the rule in the Mid-Atlantic region this week with a constant threat for showers and thunderstorms although much of the time will be rain-free. Any shower or thunderstorm that forms over the next few days can produce heavy rainfall in a short period of time and localized flooding conditions. Meandering frontal systems and weak high pressure will allow for these unsettled weather conditions to persist through the week and then there is a chance that stronger high pressure takes over this weekend and continues our current winning streak of nice weekends here in the Mid-Atlantic region.

7:00 AM | An unsettled week with scattered showers and thunderstorms

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly cloudy, not quite as warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, highs in the lower 80’s

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, mild, chance for showers and thunderstorms, lows in the mid 60’s

Tuesday

Partly sunny, warm, scattered showers and thunderstorms, mid 80’s

Tuesday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, scattered showers and thunderstorms, mid 60’s

Wednesday

Mostly cloudy, warm, scattered showers and thunderstorms, near 85

Thursday

Mostly cloudy, warm, scattered showers and thunderstorms, near 85

Friday

Mostly cloudy, warm, scattered showers and thunderstorms, mid 80’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, warm, cannot rule out a shower or thunderstorm, mid 80’s

Discussion

After a nice weekend in the Mid-Atlantic region, the weather has now become more unsettled as we begin the new work week and it looks like it will stay pretty unsettled right through the week. A frontal system arrives in the area today and it will meander around the region for the next several days as weak low pressure tracks along it. The front will finally start to dissipate late in the week as high pressure arrives from the west.

7:00 AM | Weekend winning streak continues

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, pleasant, highs not far from 80 degrees

Tonight

Mostly clear, cool, lows in the upper 50’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, comfortably warm, low-to-mid 80’s

Saturday Night

Partly cloudy, cool, near 60

Sunday

Partly sunny, still warm, mid 80’s; possible showers and thunderstorms at night

Monday

Mostly cloudy, warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, low 80’s

Tuesday

Partly sunny, warm, still the chance for showers and thunderstorms, low-to-mid 80’s

Wednesday

Partly sunny, warm, still the chance for showers and thunderstorms, low-to-mid 80’s

Discussion

Low pressure departed the region yesterday and high pressure is building in behind it and this will lead to yet another nice weekend in the Mid-Atlantic region. Once again, the timing is right for nice weather to fall on the weekend in this area and, as has been the custom in recent weeks, the threat for inclement weather will then increase as we begin the new work week (i.e., increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms on Sunday night and Monday). Looking ahead, it looks like once the weather becomes more unsettled early next week, it will stay that way for the rest of the week.

7:00 AM | Much improvement in the weather arrives this afternoon and lasts right through much of the weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Clouds early today then becoming partly sunny, a bit cooler compared to recent days, highs near 80 degrees

Tonight

Partly cloudy, cool, lows in the mid 50’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, pleasant, near 80

Friday Night

Partly cloudy, cool, mid-to-upper 50’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, comfortably warm, low 80’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, warm, chance for a shower or thunderstorm late in the day or at night, mid 80’s

Monday

Mostly cloudy, warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, mid 80’s

Tuesday

Partly sunny, warm, still the chance for showers and thunderstorm, low-to-mid 80’s

Discussion

Low pressure is moving away from the region this morning heading northeastward towards the Canadian Maritimes and this will open the door for high pressure to build into the region. Clouds early today will give way to much nicer weather later today and on Friday and it looks like that nicer weather will continue through most of the upcoming weekend.

3:45 PM | Large blob of moisture moves right across Pennsylvania during the nighttime hours

Paul Dorian

radar

Discussion

A widespread region of heavy showers and strong thunderstorms is now affecting the Ohio Valley and this large blob of moisture will move in a general west-to-east fashion right across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania during the nighttime hours. The western half of the state will be pounded with heavy rain and thunderstorms primarily during the first half of the night and the eastern sections of Pennsylvania will be hit hard late tonight and tomorrow morning - and so will much of the I-95 corridor region between DC and New York City. The rain could come down hard enough late tonight and early tomorrow to cause some localized flooding issues and there can be thunderstorm activity on the strong side with torrential downpours, frequent lightning and gusty winds. The good news is that this large area of moisture will pull out of here by later tomorrow and nice weather returns for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

7:00 AM | Nice today, but heavy showers and strong thunderstorms late tonight into Thursday morning

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Sunshine followed by clouds, warm, a bit less humid than yesterday, highs near 85 degrees

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, mild, showers and thunderstorms likely late and some of the rainfall will be heavy at times, lows near 65 degrees

Thursday

Showers and thunderstorms likely early and some of the rainfall can be heavy, mostly cloudy during the afternoon, cooler, near 80

Thursday Night

Partly cloudy, cool, mid-to-upper 50’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, comfortable, near 80

Saturday

Mostly sunny, warm, low 80’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, warm, possible showers and thunderstorms late, low-to-mid 80’s

Monday

Partly sunny, warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, low 80’s

Discussion

Weak high pressure will take control of our weather today, but the calm atmosphere will not last too long. An organized cluster of heavy showers and strong thunderstorms will move across the Ohio Valley today and reach the I-95 corridor late tonight and early Thursday and some of the rainfall around here can be heavy at times. In fact, the rain could be heavy enough to cause a disruption in the Thursday morning rush hour in parts of the I-95 corridor. Any thunderstorm that accompanies this activity late tonight and early tomorrow can be on the strong-to-severe side. Nice weather will follow at the end of the week and likely continue through most of the upcoming weekend.
