Saturday

Mainly sunny, quite warm, more humid, not far from 90 degrees for highs

Saturday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, upper 60’s

Tuesday

Wednesday

Partly sunny, quite warm, humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 90 degrees

Discussion

High pressure will shift off the east coast as we close out the week and this will promote a low-level southwesterly flow of air in the I-95 corridor. As a result, temperatures and humidity levels will climb over the next couple of days and we’ll flirt with the 90 degree mark for highs each day this weekend and also during the early part of next week. As far as rainfall is concerned, while a shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out each of the next several days, the vast majority of the time should be rain-free.

Discussion

High pressure will continue to control the weather around here right into the early part of next week and overall conditions today will be very comfortable for this time of year. The high pressure system will shift to the east coast from the Midwest on Friday and then to a position off the coast this weekend and that movement will allow for the development of a low-level flow of air out of the southwest. As a result, it should turn noticeably warmer around here by tomorrow afternoon and then the humidity will climb markedly this weekend. Temperatures by the weekend will flirt with the 90 degree mark along the I-95 corridor and a shower or thunderstorm cannot be completely ruled out on either weekend day.

7:00 AM | Nice weather for the second half of the week...Perseid meteor shower peaks late tonight

Sunday

Mainly sunny, quite warm, humid, cannot rule out a shower or thunderstorm, near 90 degrees

Monday

Mainly sunny, quite warm, humid, near 90 degrees

Discussion

High pressure is now building into the Mid-Atlantic region following the passage of a cool front late yesterday and the second half of the week looks quite nice. Temperatures will be quite pleasant today and on Thursday, but will climb to noticeably warmer levels by Friday afternoon. Looking ahead, as high pressure pushes off the east coast this weekend, more humid air will push into the Mid-Atlantic region from the southwest and the chance for a shower or thunderstorm will increase. On another note, the National Weather Service replaced the temperature sensor on Monday at Reagan National Airport (DCA) as it had often produced erroneously high temperature readings for a period of several years when compared to BWI and Dulles Airports that could not be explained away by "urban heat island" effects.

Finally, the Perseid meteor shower peaks late tonight and skies should be favorable with partly cloudy-to-mostly clear conditions. The best time to view the meteors will be between about 11pm and 5am far removed from any bright lights. 7:00 AM | More showers later today with approaching cool front along with possible thunderstorms...nice weather for the second half of the week

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely this afternoon, some of the rain can be heavy, still a bit cooler-than-normal for this time of year, highs in the lower 80’s

Tonight

Chance for an early evening lingering shower or thunderstorm; otherwise, becoming partly cloudy, turning cooler late, lows in the low-to-mid 60’s

Wednesday

Mainly sunny, pleasant, low 80’s

Wednesday Night

[meteor shower peaks late!] Partly cloudy, comfortably cool, near 60 degrees

Thursday

Mainly sunny, pleasant, near 80 degrees

Friday

Mainly sunny, warmer, mid 80’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, quite warm, more humid, cannot rule out a shower or thunderstorm, upper 80’s

Sunday

Mainly sunny, quite warm, humid, upper 80’s

Discussion

A warm front pushed through the region on Monday generating scattered showers and today will feature an approaching cool front that will generate showers later today along with embedded thunderstorms and some of the rainfall can be heavy. High pressure will build back in later tonight and control the weather during the second half of the week. Temperatures will be quite comfortable on Wednesday and Thursday, but will return to rather quite warm levels by the weekend.

7:00 AM | Threat for some heavy rainfall today into tomorrow

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Tonight

Showers and thunderstorms likely, some of the rain can be heavy, mild, lows near 70 degrees

Tuesday

Partly sunny, warm, showers and thunderstorms likely, some of the rain can be heavy, low-to-mid 80's

Tuesday Night

Becoming partly cloudy, comfortably cool, mid 60’s

Wednesday

Mainly sunny, pleasant, low 80’s

Thursday

Mainly sunny, still nice, near 80 degrees

Friday

Mainly sunny, warm, mid 80’s

Saturday

Mainly sunny, warm, upper 80’s

Discussion

High pressure controlled the weather this weekend, but this system is giving way to a pair of frontal systems which will combine to produce showers and thunderstorms in the Mid-Atlantic region from today through tomorrow and some of the rain will be heavy at times. A warm front will lift through the region today and this will be quickly followed by a cold frontal passage on Tuesday. High pressure will build back into the area at mid-week and should stay in control through the second half of the week.

7:00 AM | Scattered showers today from low pressure riding along a frontal boundary zone, but weekend looks quite nice

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Cloudy, cool, more scattered shower activity possible, highs near 80 degrees

Tonight

Mostly cloudy skies, cool, lows in the low-to-mid 60’s

Saturday

Becoming mostly sunny, comfortable, low-to-mid 80’s

Saturday Night

Partly cloudy, cool, low-to-mid 60’s

Sunday

Mainly sunny, pleasantly warm, low-to-mid 80’s

Tuesday

Mostly cloudy, still pretty pleasant as far as temperatures go, good chance for widespread showers and thunderstorms, low-to-mid 80’s

Wednesday

Partly sunny, pleasantly warm, low-to-mid 80’s

Discussion

Low pressure will ride along a frontal boundary zone today towards the Mid-Atlantic coastline producing some additional shower activity along its path. This system will push off the east coast later today paving the way for a rather nice weekend in the Mid-Atlantic region with the continuation of comfortable temperatures and humidity levels for this time of year.

7:00 AM | Threat for some steady, heavy rain tonight and Friday in the DC metro region

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mostly cloudy, pleasant temperatures chance for mid-to-late afternoon showers, highs not far from 80 degrees

Tonight

Cloudy skies, mild, occasional showers likely with possible thunderstorms, some of the rain can be heavy, lows in the mid 60’s

Friday

Mostly cloudy, cool, more rain likely, maybe a thunderstorm, some of the rain can be heavy, near 80 degrees

Friday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, showers possible early, mid 60’s

Saturday

Becoming mainly sunny, nice, low 80’s

Sunday

Mainly sunny, pleasantly warm, mid 80’s

Monday

Partly sunny, comfortably warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, mid 80’s

Tuesday

Mostly cloudy, comfortably warm, good chance for showers and thunderstorms, mid 80’s

Discussion

Low pressure will ride along a boundary zone towards the Mid-Atlantic coastline over the next 24 hours or so and it'll produce some significant rainfall in the DC metro region. In fact, it appears the steadiest, heaviest rain associated with this low pressure system will fall in and around the DC metro region, across the Delmarva Peninsula, and northward to the PA/MD border. Once the low pressure pushes off the east coast, high pressure will build back into the region and the weekend will turn out quite nice with comfortable temperatures and humidity levels.

7:00 AM | More comfortable air moves in and sticks around for the next several days

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Becoming partly sunny, pleasantly warm, highs in the mid-to-upper 80’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy skies, quite comfortable, lows in the low-to-mid 60’s

Thursday

Increasing clouds, comfortable temperatures, chance for showers and thunderstorms late, low 80’s

Thursday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, showers likely, maybe a thunderstorm, mid-to-upper 60’s

Friday

Mainly cloudy, showers likely, maybe a thunderstorm, steadiest rain south and east of the District, low 80's

Saturday

Becoming mainly sunny, comfortable, low 80's

Sunday

Mostly sunny, still on the pleasant side, low-to-mid 80’s

Monday

Partly sunny, warm, mid 80’s

Discussion

A cool front will stall out just to the south of here over the next 24 hours or so and this will set the stage for low pressure to ride along the frontal boundary zone into the Mid-Atlantic region at the end of the week. Some rainfall is likely around here during Thursday night and Friday from this low pressure system, but the best chance for the steadiest rain will occur south and east of the District. Low pressure pulls away from the coastline early Saturday paving the way for a decent weekend in the Mid-Atlantic region with comfortable temperatures and humidity levels.

7:00 AM | Threat grows for a cool, rainy end-of-week

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mainly sunny, still quite warm, humid, cannot rule out an afternoon shower or thunderstorm, highs not far from 90 degrees

Tonight

Chance for a shower or thunderstorm early then becoming partly cloudy and more comfortable, lows in the mid 60’s

Wednesday

Mainly sunny, pleasant, mid-to-upper 80’s

Wednesday Night

Partly cloudy, comfortable, low-to-mid 60’s

Thursday

Increasing clouds, still comfortable with the chance for showers and thunderstorms late, low-to-mid 80’s

Friday

Mainly cloudy, cool with periods of rain likely, maybe a thunderstorm, near 80 degrees

Saturday

Chance for lingering showers early then becoming partly sunny, pleasant temperatures continue, low 80's

Sunday

Mainly sunny, pleasant, near 80 degrees

Discussion

A cool, rainy day is an increasing possibility at the end of the week…a cool frontal system is stalling out just south of here and a wave of low pressure will ride along its boundary zone later in the week. Temperatures will trend downward over the next few days and be closer to the 80 degree mark for highs by Friday rather than the 90 degrees that we’ve been accustomed to in recent days. Showers are likely in the cooler air mass late this week and there is a growing chance for some steady rain as we close out the work week and begin the weekend.

7:00 AM | Turning noticeably cooler and unsettled later this week

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mainly sunny, quite warm, becoming a bit more humid, highs in the lower 90’s

Tonight

Chance for a shower or thunderstorm; otherwise, partly cloudy skies, mild, lows near 70 degrees

Tuesday

Mainly sunny, not quite as warm, cannot rule out a shower or thunderstorm, near 90 degrees

Tuesday Night

Cannot rule out an evening shower or thunderstorm then becoming partly cloudy skies and more comfortable, mid 60’s

Wednesday

Mainly sunny, pleasant, mid-to-upper 80’s

Thursday

Mainly cloudy, noticeably cooler with the chance for showers, maybe a thunderstorm, highs in the low 80’s

Friday

Mainly cloudy, still on the cool side of normal with showers possible, maybe even a period of steady rain, low 80’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, cool, showers still possible, near 80 degrees

Discussion

A cool frontal system will approach the area later today from the Great Lakes region and it could produce an isolated shower or thunderstorm. This front will stall just south of our area by mid-week and waves of low pressure will ride along the frontal boundary zone later in the week as we turn noticeably cooler. Elsewhere, there is now a typhoon in the western Pacific Ocean named "Soudelor" and it could become quite a news maker over the next few days as computer forecast models suggest a deepening of its central pressure to rarely-seen levels. It is very likely to reach "super" typhoon status in the near term - Taiwan, China and Japan are keeping a close eye on it.
