7:00 AM | Weekend looking pretty decent although there will be chilly starts

Paul Dorian

A slow-moving and strong low pressure system has now pushed northward into the western part of the Mid-Atlantic region and colder air is filtering into the Tennessee Valley on its backside.  There is still some instability in the atmosphere in the region and showers will continue to threaten both today and tonight, but the weekend is looking pretty decent although each day will have quite chilly starts.  In fact, low temperatures over the next couple of nights are likely to be in the 40’s in many locations; however, sunshine should boost afternoon high temperatures to near the 70 degree mark on both weekend days.

7:00 AM | Severe weather threat late Sunday as strong cold front arrives

Paul Dorian

A meandering frontal system will keep it somewhat unsettled around here for the next couple of days generating a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms today, tonight and tomorrow.  Later in the weekend, a deep trough of low pressure will pull out of the Central Plains and head towards the Great Lakes region.  An associated cold frontal system will approach the Tennessee Valley on Sunday and this raises the prospects for late day showers and thunderstorms and some of these storms can be on the strong-to-severe side. The combination of low level shear and increasing buoyancy suggest the potential late Sunday for damaging winds and hail as this strong cold front approaches the region.
