7:00 AM | Very warm to start off the new week...shower/storm threat returns during the second half of the week

Paul Dorian

High pressure ridging in the eastern US will support very warm conditions around here in the Tennessee valley for much of the week.  At the same time very warm air dominates the eastern US, very chilly air for this time of year will dive into the western US.  The result of this clash of cold air to the west and warm air to the east is likely to result in a widespread severe weather outbreak during the mid-week in the central Plains.  We’ll monitor this unfolding pattern to see if any severe weather can make it into the local region later in the week.

7:00 AM | *Some storms later today can be on the strong-to-severe side*

Paul Dorian

A frontal boundary zone will approach the Tennessee Valley today raising our chances for showers and thunderstorms during the mid-day and afternoon hours.  Some of the storms later today can be on the strong-to-severe side with gusty winds and hail.  The weekend will feature improving weather conditions following the frontal passage and Mother’s Day should turn out to be quite a pleasant day with plenty of sunshine and warm conditions.  By the time the middle of next week rolls around, there will be much warmer-than-normal air in the eastern US and very chilly air for this time of year across the western US.  As a result, there is likely to be a widespread severe weather outbreak in the "clash zone" (central Plains) around the middle of next week and we’ll monitor any potential impact around here from this unfolding scenario.

7:00 AM | Weekend looking pretty decent although there will be chilly starts

Paul Dorian

A slow-moving and strong low pressure system has now pushed northward into the western part of the Mid-Atlantic region and colder air is filtering into the Tennessee Valley on its backside.  There is still some instability in the atmosphere in the region and showers will continue to threaten both today and tonight, but the weekend is looking pretty decent although each day will have quite chilly starts.  In fact, low temperatures over the next couple of nights are likely to be in the 40’s in many locations; however, sunshine should boost afternoon high temperatures to near the 70 degree mark on both weekend days.

7:00 AM | *Strong low pressure to bring us a good chance of showers and thunderstorms later tonight/tomorrow*

Paul Dorian

A strong low pressure system will form later today in the south-central US and it will intensify tonight and Thursday as it begins a slow trek towards the Great lakes region.  This system is supported by vigorous upper-level energy and it can generate showers and thunderstorms in the Tennessee Valley later tonight and on Thursday which can contain heavy rainfall and some of the storms can be on the strong side.  Much cooler air follows by late in the week and it’ll stay unsettled, but the weekend is looking pretty nice.
