It’ll be quite mild again today in the Tennessee Valley with highs near the 60 degree mark. IN fact, the overall pattern look quite mild for the next 10-15 days or so and we’ll climb back to the 70 degree mark for highs by Thursday. High pressure will push into the region today and we’ll have a break in the soaking rain of recent days, but temperatures will be cooler than yesterday. There will continue to be an absence of any cold air to speak of over the next few days and 70+ degrees is likely later in the week in much of the Tennessee Valley.

An active weather pattern continues across much of the nation and a heavy rain event is headed to northern Alabama for the weekend with some areas likely to receive more than two inches of rainfall by the time Sunday night rolls around. After dry weather through much of today, the chance for rain will increase tonight and that threat will continue right though the upcoming weekend and it looks like a significant rain event with thunderstorms included. Moisture-laden low pressure will track along a frontal boundary zone and right through the Tennessee Valley over the next couple of days following high pressure that pushes off the east coast today. The unsettled weather will include rather mild conditions this weekend and early next week with highs likely reaching the 60 degree mark on multiple days.

The next several days wil be characterized by a topsy-turvy temperature pattern. Today will start off on the cold side with Arctic high pressure situated over the area. The high quickly shifts to our east on Saturday and temperatures will respond by climbing back up to near 50 degrees. An upper-level trough will dig into Texas late Saturday night and showers are likely to be the result here for the second half of the weekend and some of the rain can be moderate-to-heavy at times.

Another cold front will arrive in the region later today and we’ll turn right around from the milder conditions and chill down noticeably late tonight and Friday. In fact, an overall cool and active pattern is unfolding for the Tennessee Valley as a mean upper-level trough forms over much of the country. There is likely to be some rain later in the weekend in this active pattern, and it may just get cold enough for a changeover to snow by Sunday night or Monday in this region and accumulations are on the table.
