7:00 AM | *It turns hotter next few days with highs in the 90's likely for Friday and Saturday*

Paul Dorian

The overall weather pattern will change somewhat in coming days and allow for hotter conditions in the Tennessee Valley and a somewhat reduced chance at showers and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday. Temperatures today will climb to the 90 degree mark for highs and then into the 90’s on Friday and Saturday. Any thunderstorm that does form later today can produce some heavy rainfall given the high humidity in place and potentially damaging wind gusts.

7:00 AM | *Near 90 degrees this afternoon and the threat for showers/storms*

Paul Dorian

The wet weather pattern continues for the remainder of the week in much of the eastern half of the nation. A stalled out frontal boundary zone just to our north will result in unsettled weather across northern Alabama during the next few days. A series of upper-level waves of energy will move along the stalled out frontal boundary zone and generate bands of showers and thunderstorms around here and some of the storms can be on the strong side. Any shower or thunderstorm in this pattern can produce some heavy rainfall and – given the already well saturated grounds – localized flooding continues to be a concern.

7:00 AM | *Wet pattern continues in much of the eastern half of the nation*

A stalled out frontal boundary zone will be close enough to the region to result in unsettled weather for much of the week across northern Alabama. A series of upper-level waves of energy will move along the stalled out frontal boundary zone and generate bands of showers and thunderstorms over coming days and some of the storms can be strong-to-severe. Any shower or thunderstorm in this pattern storm can produce some heavy rainfall and – given the already well saturated grounds – localized flooding may become an increasing concern.

7:00 AM | *A couple more rain-free days, but then another stretch of unsettled weather comes to the Tennessee Valley*

Paul Dorian

High pressure will remain entrenched across the area on Friday and Saturday and temperatures will bounce back to near 90 degrees by Saturday afternoon after a rather comfortable end to the work week. As the high pushes to the east of here on Sunday, our low-level winds will take on more of a southwesterly direction and pump in more moisture. The added moisture will combine with multiple short waves during the early and middle parts of next week to bring back a daily threat for showers and thunderstorms.

7:00 AM | *A comfortable day across northern Alabama*

Flow out of the northwest will usher in drier and cooler air for today throughout the Tennessee Valley. Winds will be a factor today with gusts possible to 30 mph, but should begin to die down after sunset. High pressure will remain entrenched across the area on Friday and Saturday and temperatures will bounce back to the upper 80’s by Saturday afternoon.

7:00 AM | *Cooler-than-normal for the middle of June*

Paul Dorian

Moisture from the Southeast US will combine with a cold front to bring us another shot at showers and thunderstorms later today and tonight. High pressure will build into the area on Thursday and we should enjoy a couple of decent days in the Tennessee Valley. In fact, highs on Thursday are likely to stay confined to the low or mid 70’s – more than ten degrees below normal for this time of year.

7:00 AM | *Warm, but no excessive heat this week*

Paul Dorian

A troughing east/ridging west type of pattern is setting up for the Lower 48 and this will bring another cold front towards the local region from the northwest. Moisture from the Southeast US will combine with the front to bring us another shot at showers and thunderstorms at mid-week. Drier weather will return later in the week as the upper-level trough of low pressure slides past the Tennessee Valley.

7:00 AM | *Temperatures should drop below 60 degrees later tonight for the first time in about one month*

Paul Dorian

A cold front will sweep across the Tennessee Valley today and there is the chance for some shower and thunderstorm activity as a result. It’ll turn cooler later tonight and temperatures should fall into the upper 50’s for overnight lows. The last time temperatures here were below 60 degrees was about a month ago in the middle of May. Highs tomorrow following the frontal passage will be near 80…several degrees below-normal for this time of year.

7:00 AM | **Very wet weather pattern for the Tennessee Valley*

Paul Dorian

The current stretch of wet weather in the Tennessee Valley will last right through the upcoming weekend and into the first part of next week. An upper-level trough of low pressure will stick around for the next few days and it won’t weaken until the early part of next week. As a result, some spots will receive several inches of rain over this wet stretch on top of already well-saturated grounds and drier weather looks like it’ll have to wait until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
