Paul Dorian

A strong upper-level low pressure system has moved into the Northeast US and is acting to push the subtropical ridge axis to our south and this will result in a more showers and thunderstorms over the Florida Peninsula in coming days. Atlantic Basin tropical activity continues to remain subdued, but high pressure will build into southeastern Canada this weekend and next week that always raises a red flag this time of year as conditions often become more favorable for development in the southwestern Atlantic.

7:00 AM | Still quiet on the tropical front, but upper-level pattern becomes a bit more favorable for development this weekend and next week

Paul Dorian

A strong upper-level low pressure system over the Upper Midwest will act to push the subtropical ridge axis to our south and this will result in a more favorable pattern here for showers and thunderstorms. Some drier air may push in at mid-week reducing the chances for rain, but it’ll stay very warm and humid with highs much of the week near the 90 degree mark. Atlantic Basin tropical activity continues to remain subdued, but high pressure will build into southeastern Canada this weekend and that always raises a red flag this time of year as conditions often become more favorable in the southwestern Atlantic.

Paul Dorian

It looks like another couple of rain-free days around here as we end the work week and begin the weekend, but the chance of showers and thunderstorms will return-to-normal for the Sunday-to-Wednesday time period. The western Atlantic ridge of high pressure will lose some control around here this weekend as a trough drops into the Southeast US and moisture will gradually increase by the latter part of the weekend.

Paul Dorian

While there will remain the chance of showers and thunderstorms today across central Florida, drier air moves in tonight and it should result in rain-free conditions for the bulk of the time as we head towards the weekend. Western Atlantic high pressure will remain in control through the upcoming weekend with best chances for rain at inland locations on both weekend days.

7:00 AM | Tropics still generally on the quiet side

Paul Dorian

The western Atlantic ridge of high pressure that has impacted our region in recent days will continue to do so for the remainder of the week. As a result, hot and humid air will continue to flow northward into the region and we’ll experience scattered showers and thunderstorms and high temperatures near the 90 degree mark. The tropical Atlantic continues to remain relatively quiet for this time of year.

7:00 AM | Bermuda High in control to continue daily threat of showers and storms

Paul Dorian

High pressure ridging will extend westward from the western Atlantic and continue to pump very warm and moist air into central Florida. As a result, the threat for scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue through the weekend and high temperatures of 90 degrees are likely each day right into the early part of next week. The annual Perseid meteor shower peaks this weekend so the potential unsettled weather pattern could result in somewhat unfavorable viewing conditions.
