7:00 AM | *All eyes on the Gulf of Mexico for possible tropical development this week*

Paul Dorian

The main weather story of the week could turn out to be the formation of a named tropical system over the northern Gulf of Mexico. Broad low pressure will drift westward over the northern Gulf in coming days and favorable atmospheric conditions combined with warmer-than-normal sea surface temperatures will likely lead to intensification by the end of the week. Whether or not tropical storm status is actually reached, there will be heavy rainfall this week over much of the Gulf region…stay tuned.

1:45 PM | *All eyes on the Gulf of Mexico this week for likely tropical storm formation*

Paul Dorian

Overall activity in this still rather young Atlantic Basin tropical season has been pretty much non-existent so far, but it looks like the Gulf of Mexico will be the breeding grounds this week for tropical storm development.  Low pressure will first drift southward to a location over the northern Gulf of Mexico over the next couple of days and then drift westward across the northern Gulf of Mexico and likely intensify into tropical storm status – perhaps even reaching hurricane status.  All eyes from the Florida Panhandle to Texas should closely monitor this unfolding situation as heavy rainfall is likely whether or not there is a named tropical system (would be called Barry).

7:00 AM | *All eyes on the Gulf of Mexico...possible tropical storm formation later in the week*

Paul Dorian

The main weather story of this week could turn out to be the formation of a tropical storm – potentially even a hurricane – over the Gulf of Mexico. Low pressure this morning over the Southeast US will drop southward to a position over the Gulf of Mexico over the next couple of days. From there, this system could very well intensify into a named tropical storm as it churns over the northern of Mexico and there is an outside shot at it strengthening into hurricane status later in the week…stay tuned.

7:00 AM | *Good chance of showers and storms this weekend*

Paul Dorian

High pressure ridging over the western Atlantic will continue to be the dominant player around here resulting in very warm and humid weather conditions throughout Florida. In addition, showers and thunderstorms will continue to be a threat today, tonight and Friday and the chances for rain may actually increase during the upcoming weekend as a trough forms over the Mid-Atlantic region. This trough will act to suppress the ridge of high pressure over the southern half of the Florida Peninsula resulting in higher storm coverage in the east-central part of the state. Any storm that forms in the pattern can be on the strong side with locally heavy rainfall possible.

7:00 AM | *90 degree highs for the holiday week*

Paul Dorian

High pressure ridging over the western Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico will be the dominant players this week producing hotter weather across central Florida. In addition, while showers and thunderstorms will continue to be a daily threat, the chances will be somewhat reduced compared to the weekend thanks to the dominating high pressure system in the area.

7:00 AM | *Lots of clouds this weekend and good chance for showers and storms*

Paul Dorian

High pressure ridging over the western Atlantic will be the dominant player this weekend producing a low-level onshore flow of air into central Florida. This type of wind flow will push high moisture levels into the area and this will lead to an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms as we progress into the weekend. With the increase in moisture there will be more clouds around this weekend and that will help to shave a few degrees off of high temperatures across central Florida compared to recent days.

7:00 AM | *Chance of showers and storms today, but an even better shot this weekend*

Paul Dorian

High pressure ridging over the Gulf of Mexico will give way to a weak trough over central Florida and this could result in some shower and thundershower activity. Even more favorable conditions will develop this weekend for shower and thunderstorm activity across the Florida Peninsula and copious amounts of clouds will reduce temperatures slightly compared to the next couple of days.
