Wednesday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, upper 60's

Wednesday Night

Friday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, mid-to-upper 60’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny skies, pleasantly cool, upper 60’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny skies, pleasantly cool, upper 60’s

Discussion

A marine layer will be rather stubborn for the next few days along the coast with late night and early morning clouds and fog, but afternoons should feature some brightening skies. The overall pattern changes somewhat later this week as a broad trough moves closer to the coast from the eastern Pacific and this will begin a slight cooling trend.

Discussion

Strong upper level high pressure over Colorado will give way by tonight to a weak trough and this trough will hang around on Wednesday. As a result, moisture will increase in the region and we’ll have an increasing shot at some shower and thunderstorm activity later today into tomorrow evening. Temperatures today will climb above normal once again reaching the low-to-middle 90’s, but will trend slightly lower over the next few days.

Friday

Saturday

Discussion

As high pressure weakens to our east, monsoonal flow that has been bottled up to our west in recent days will pick up once again; especially, by later tonight and on Tuesday and Wednesday. Upper level winds are quite slow so any storm that does develop will likely be a slow-mover which could produce heavy rainfall over any given location. Temperatures will continue to run above normal with highs well up in the 90's over the next couple of days.

7:00 AM | Patchy early morning fog with some afternoon clearing a theme for the week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, fog possible late at night, lows in the low 60’s

Tuesday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, near 70

Tuesday Night

Partly cloudy, cool, fog late, low 60’s

Thursday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, upper 60’s

Friday

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, cool, upper 60’s

Saturday

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, cool, upper 60’s

Discussion

Low pressure to the west and high pressure to the east will lead to continued cool weather here in southern California with late night and early morning coastal fog a good possibility each of the next few days that will be followed by some afternoon clearing skies. A cooling trend will begin by mid-week as the overall pattern for the west coast remains quite persistent with normal to below-normal temperatures. For the month so far, the LA Airport is averaging almost two degrees below normal and that temperature trend will continue for much of this week as well.

7:00 AM | Hot weather here to stay for awhile; monsoonal moisture returns early next week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mainly sunny, very hot, upper 90’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, mid 60’s for lows

Saturday

Mostly sunny, hot, upper 90’s

Saturday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, mid 60’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, hot, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, upper 90’s

Monday

Mainly sunny, hot, chance for showers and thunderstorms, low-to-mid 90’s

Tuesday

Mainly sunny, hot, chance for showers and thunderstorms, low 90’s

Wednesday

Mainly sunny, hot, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 90

Discussion

Upper level high pressure centered over Colorado will shift to the east of us by the weekend to a position over the central Plains. This will keep the monsoonal moisture bottled up somewhat to our west until early next week when chances for showers and thunderstorms will go back up again. As the high pressure weakens early next week, the monsoonal flow will pick up once again and we’ll have the chance for showers and thunderstorms each day from Monday through Wednesday of next week.

Tonight

Partly cloudy, breezy, some fog possible late, lows in the mid 60’s

Saturday

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, near 70

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, near 70

Monday

Fog possible early then partly sunny skies, near 70

Tuesday

Mostly sunny skies, pleasant, upper 60’s

Wednesday

Mostly sunny skies, pleasant, upper 60’s

Discussion

High pressure from the Midwest will expand westward and take control of our weather pattern as Fabio’s moisture has now passed us by. The marine layer that causes some late night clouds and fog will be quite shallow for the next few days so afternoon sunshine should be quite abundant with high temperatures likely reaching the 70's each day.

Fabio’s moisture has now passed us by and is heading into Nevada and we’ll experience clearing skies today with highs reaching the 70 degree mark in the LA metro region. Temperatures will continue slightly below normal through the weekend with highs near 70 along the coast each day and lows late at night generally in the lower 60’s.

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, mild, chance for an evening shower or thunderstorm, mid 60’s for lows

Discussion

Normal high temperature values for Denver are currently right around the 90 degrees mark and we’ll be above that for the next few days. Upper level high pressure centered over Colorado on Thursday will shift to the east by the weekend to a position over the central Plains. This may keep the monsoonal moisture bottled up somewhat to our west until early next week when chances for showers and thunderstorms should go back up again.

12:00 PM | Fabio's moisture now moving into southern California

Paul Dorian

Discussion

Late last week we started mentioning the possibility that the remains of Hurricane Fabio could affect southern California and now it’s leftover moisture is streaming into the region and showers and thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and tonight from San Diego to Los Angeles. By later tonight, the bulk of the moisture will be out of the area as the system is moving fairly quickly. Flash flooding is not too likely as any showers and thunderstorms that do move inland will be moving along at quite a quick pace, but we’ll monitor the situation; especially, over the mountains where some heavy rain can fall. Also, large swells of up to 4-6 feet can occur due to the remnants of Fabio this afternoon and evening. It is quite rare that rain from a tropical storm actually affects the Los Angeles basin. The last time that this happened was with the remains of Hurricane Dean during August of 2007 that actually made landfall in Santa Barbara.

7:00 AM | Monsoonal moisture still affecting our weather pattern

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Partly sunny, hot, chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms, highs in the low 90's

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, mild, chance for a few showers and thunderstorms, low 60’s for lows

Thursday

Mostly sunny, hot, still a slight chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms, low-to-mid 90’s

Thursday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, low 60’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, hot, low 90’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, hot, low-to-mid 90’s

Sunday

Mainly sunny, hot, low 90's

Monday

Mainly sunny, hot, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Discussion

The main player in the world of weather around here continues to be the monsoonal flow of moisture from Arizona and New Mexico into the Rockies region. Upper level high pressure continues to sit to our east and from this position it will allow subtropical moisture to advect into this area. The best chance for any shower or thunderstorm activity will be during the afternoon and evening hours both today and tomorrow when daytime heating combines with this moisture to destabilize the atmosphere.
