7:00 AM | *Unsettled weather conditions for the remainder of the week to include showers and possible thunderstorms*

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly cloudy, a couple of showers likely, breezy, cool, highs in the mid 60’s along coastal sections

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, cool, showers likely, lows in the mid-to-upper 50’s

Thursday

Lingering showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm or two, breezy, cool, low-to-mid 60’s

Thursday Night

Mostly cloudy, cool, still the threat for showers and thunderstorms, low 50’s

Friday

Partly sunny skies, cool, morning showers possible, upper 60's

Saturday

Becoming mostly sunny, milder, low 70’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, cool, upper 60's

Monday

Mostly sunny, cool, upper 60’s

Discussion

Temperatures will remain below normal for the next few days and the combination of a cold front and a strong, cold upper level low will keep the region quite unsettled. Showers are possible today and tonight and, as the cold upper low moves in tomorrow, the chances for thunderstorms will increase. There will be slow improvement this weekend, but temperatures will generally hold on the cool side.

7:00 AM | Still pleasant for today, but significantly colder later this week with possible accumulating snow

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, still quite pleasant, highs in the low 60’s

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, chilly, lows in the low-to-mid 30’s

Wednesday

Partly sunny, breezy, mild, upper 50’s

Wednesday Night

Mostly cloudy, cold, breezy, snow likely after midnight, mid 20’s

Thursday

Mostly cloudy, much colder, snow likely with accumulations possible, upper 20's

Friday

Mainly cloudy, still quite cold, low-to-mid 30’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, cold, low 40’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, slightly milder, low 50’s

Discussion

Pleasant conditions continue today, but a strong cold front will usher in much colder air into the southern Rockies on Thursday. With good upper level dynamics in place, that cold shot may be accompanied by some accumulating snow late Wednesday night and Thursday. The cold conditions will continue into the weekend before some modification will take place.

7:00 AM | Somewhat unsettled and cool for the next few days

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Low clouds and patchy fog early followed by gradual clearing skies, breezy, cool, highs in the mid 60’s along coastal sections

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, cool, lows in the mid-to-upper 50’s

Wednesday

Patchy fog possible early; otherwise, mostly cloudy skies, breezy, cool, low-to-mid 60’s

Wednesday Night

Mostly cloudy with patchy fog possible late, cool, mid 50’s

Thursday

Mostly cloudy skies, still cool, maybe a few showers, mid 60’s

Friday

Becoming mostly sunny, cool, mid 60’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, cool, mid 60’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, cool, mid 60’s

Discussion

A weak cold front will approach the region today with some clouds that will last into Wednesday, and then low pressure will drop southward later this week increasing the chances for shower activity by Thursday.

1:15 PM | Sudden brightening last week of Comet ISON gives some hope for a great show

Paul Dorian

ISON

Discussion

Comet ISON is nearing its closest approach to the sun and it surprised many astronomers by suddenly brightening quite significantly late last week. If that trend continues, it could make for a sight visible with the naked eye in the low east-to-southeast horizon in the pre-dawn sky very soon, and it could last through January. If the comet is torn apart; however, there might only be a bright flash visible to Earth and then nothing more.

The comet’s recent outburst of activity has done more than simply brighten the comet. Whatever exploded from the comet’s core created a spectacularly long tail that is estimated to be more than 16 million kilometers from end-to-end. The tail of the comet now stretches more than 7 degrees across the sky which is almost as wide as the bowl of the Big Dipper (image courtesy of spaceweather.com). Physically, ISON’s tail is about 12 times wider than the sun so when the head of the comet plunges into the sun’s atmosphere on November 28th, Thanksgiving Day, more than 15 million kilometers of the comet’s tail will still be jutting into space behind it.

Because so much gas and dust is spewing from the comet’s core, it is impossible to tell what caused the outburst in activity late last week. Is this a short-lived event or the beginning of a more active phase? It is possible that the nucleus has become completely fragmented and, if so, it will be several days before we know for sure. Stay tuned.

7:00 AM | A nice way to start the new week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, pleasant, highs in the low 60's

Tonight

Mostly clear, chilly, lows in the low-to-mid 30’s

Tuesday

Partly sunny, breezy, mild, low 60’s

Tuesday Night

Partly cloudy, chilly, low 30’s

Wednesday

Partly cloudy, cooler, mid-to-upper 50’s

Thursday

Mainly cloudy, colder, chance for some snow, mid-to-upper 30's

Friday

Partly sunny, cold, mid 30’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, cold, mid 40’s

Discussion

Pleasant conditions begin the new week with high temperatures not far from 60 degrees this afternoon, but changes are coming for the second half of the week. Much colder air moves into the southern Rockies by Thursday and there will even be the threat for some steady snow as an upper level trough approaches the region. The cold air will stick around into the weekend.

7:00 AM | Seasonably cool for much of the week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Low clouds and patchy fog early followed by gradual clearing skies, breezy, cooler, highs in the mid 60’s along coastal sections

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, cool, lows in the mid 50’s

Tuesday

Patchy fog possible early; otherwise, partly sunny skies, breezy, cool, mid 60’s

Tuesday Night

Mostly cloudy with patchy fog possible late, cool, mid 50’s

Wednesday

Partly-to-mostly cloudy skies, still cool, mid 60’s

Thursday

Patchy fog possible early; otherwise, mostly cloudy skies, cool, near 70

Friday

Mostly cloudy, cool, near 70

Saturday

Mostly sunny, cool, near 70

Discussion

Temperatures will remain seasonably cool during the first half of the week as a weak ridge of high pressure controls the weather. Plenty of clouds are likely to rule the skies later this week as an upper level low approaches the region.

7:00 AM | Cooling trend begins today and it stays cool through the weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Low clouds and patchy fog early followed by gradual clearing skies, breezy, cooler, highs in the mid 60’s along coastal sections

Tonight

Mostly cloudy with some late night drizzle and fog possible, cool, lows in the mid 50’s

Saturday

Patchy fog possible early, maybe even some drizzle; otherwise, partly sunny skies, breezy, cool, mid 60’s

Saturday Night

Mostly cloudy with patchy fog possible late, cool, mid 50’s

Partly-to-mostly sunny skies, still cool, mid 60’s

Monday

Patchy fog possible early; otherwise, mostly sunny skies, cool, near 70

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, cool, near 70

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, cool, near 70

Discussion

A cooling trend begins today and will continue into the weekend. The marine layer will also make a return and our chances for late night and early morning low clouds and fog along coastal sections will increase during the weekend. Cool weather is likely to begin the new week with a continuation of primarily dry conditions.

7:00 AM | Nice way to end the week, but colder air is on the way

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, pleasant, highs near 60 degrees

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, chilly, lows near 32 degrees

Saturday

Partly sunny, breezy, mild, upper 50’s

Saturday Night

Mostly cloudy, chilly, chance for some snow, low 30’s

Sunday

Mainly cloudy, colder, chance for some snow, low 40’s

Monday

Mainly sunny, cold, low-to-mid 50’s

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, not as cold, low-to-mid 50’s

Wednesday

Partly sunny, cool, mid 50’s

Discussion

A weak trough of low pressure moves through the region tonight and then a large upper level trough approaches the weekend late Saturday/early Sunday. While there is the chance for some snow later in the weekend as this large trough closes in on the region, it does not appear to be significant event. Upper ridging moves into the southern Rockies early next week and dry weather is expected between Monday and Wednesday.

7:00 AM | A cooling trend begins tomorrow

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, breezy, warm, highs near 80 degrees along coastal regions

Tonight

Mostly clear early, clouds late with patchy fog possible, mild, lows in the mid-to-upper 50’s

Friday

Patchy fog possible early; otherwise, mostly sunny skies, breezy, cooler, mid 60’s

Friday Night

Mostly clear early, clouds late with patchy fog possible, mild, upper 50’s

Saturday

Patchy fog possible early and maybe a shower or two; otherwise, partly sunny skies, cool, mid 60’s

Sunday

Partly sunny skies, still cool, mid 60’s

Monday

Patchy fog possible early; otherwise, partly sunny skies, cool, upper 60’s

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, milder, low 70’s

Discussion

After one more warm day a cooling trend will begin on Friday and it will continue into the weekend. The marine layer will also make a return and our chances for late night and early morning low clouds and fog along coastal sections will increase during the weekend.

7:00 AM | Weak disturbances during the next few days, but something more significant is possible late this weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, cool, highs in the mid 50’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, chilly, lows near 32 degrees

Friday

Partly sunny, breezy, milder, near 60

Friday Night

Mostly cloudy, chilly, low 30’s

Saturday

Mainly sunny, mild, upper 50’s

Sunday

Mainly cloudy, colder, chance for some snow, near 40

Monday

Partly sunny, cold, low 40's

Tuesday

Partly sunny, not as cold, upper 40’s

Discussion

We’ve been somewhat protected in recent days by large upper level ridging across the western states, but that pattern is breaking down and weak disturbances will be affecting the region over the next few days. Later in the weekend, however, there is the chance for a more substantial snow threat as colder air heads towards the region.
