1:15 PM Very hot weather possible late next week

We are now halfway through July and the climatological peak of the summer heat is rapidly approaching. There has been extreme heat already this summer across the Southern Plains in states like Oklahoma and Texas where 100 degree plus high temperatures have been commonplace. There are now indications that the overall weather pattern will change to allow for a broad southwest flow of air to develop by late next week which will allow for some of the extreme heat to expand into the Mid-Atlantic region. Temperatures from Washington, D.C. to New York City could reach their highest levels of the season so far around next Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The GFS computer forecast model map seen below is for next Thursday and my "drawn in" arrow is to represent the “blow torch” of a southwest wind that may develop bringing us our hottest weather yet late next week.
