12:00 PM | Severe weather threat in the Mid-Atlantic late Friday and Friday night

Discussion
Low pressure will move later tomorrow from the Ohio Valley towards the northern Great Lakes and this storm track will push a strong cold front towards the east coast. This particular system has very impressive upper-level support for this time of year and other ingredients for severe weather should fall into place later tomorrow including high humidity air riding up the coast and a cooling trend in the upper atmosphere. As a result, there is the potential for severe weather, including a few tornadoes, late Friday and Friday night from Pennsylvania and New Jersey southward to Georgia. In addition to the isolated tornado threat, these storms could include damaging wind gusts, brief heavy rainfall, hail and frequent lightning strikes. Currently, this system is out over the middle of the country and severe weather could very well break out later today from Texas to the Ohio Valley.
