3:00 PM | Threat for mid-week Nor'easter continues

The threat continues for a Nor’easter during the middle part of next week and this scenario would unfortunately directly affect the storm-ravaged regions of the Mid-Atlantic. It appears that a storm will develop close to the Outer Banks region of North Carolina by early next Wednesday, and then move northeastward along the coast to New Jersey or Long Island by early Thursday and then finally to near the Maine coast by Friday. This setup would bring strong winds and rains to coastal regions and snows in inland higher elevation locations from central Pennsylvania northward into New England - even the chance for some snows to occur near the I-95 corridor as cold air will be established. Winds will be quite significant as well along the coast as the storm slowly spins its way up the coast. Not surprisingly, there are some differences with regard to this storm track between the US GFS computer forecast model and the European model with the Euro solution much closer to the coast. GFS is likely (once again) dealing with its usual “southeast” bias to a coastal storm track in the medium-range time frame.
