A mix of clouds and sun, quite warm, humid, chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms, highs in the upper 80’s

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, mild, muggy, chance for evening showers and thunderstorms, lows near 70 degrees

Saturday

Partly sunny, hot and humid, showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after noon, near 90

Saturday Night

Mainly cloudy, muggy, evening showers and thunderstorms likely, turning cooler late, lows by morning in the lower 60’s

Sunday

Becoming partly sunny after a possible early morning shower, cooler and turning less humid, near 80

Monday

Mostly cloudy, cool, chance for showers, upper 70’s

Tuesday

Mostly cloudy, cool, maybe a few showers, upper 70’s

Wednesday

Mostly cloudy, still on the cool side, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 80

Discussion

High pressure has pushed off the Northeast coastline and this has allowed for the return of high humidity air into the I-95 corridor. While there can be scattered showers and thunderstorms later today and early tonight in the DC metro region, a more widespread threat comes later tomorrow with the approach of the next strong cool frontal system. Any thunderstorm that forms between this afternoon and tomorrow evening in the I-95 corridor can contain some heavy rainfall. Once that next cool front clears the east coast early on Sunday, much cooler air will push into the area and it’ll stay cooler-than-normal on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Showers are possible on Monday and Tuesday from a coastal low pressure area that will likely form over the weekend.

Discussion

After a warm and relatively moderately humid day today, high pressure will push off the Northeast coastline early Friday and this will usher in a return to higher humidity air for tomorrow afternoon and Saturday. While there can be an scattered showers and thunderstorms later today and again on Friday afternoon/evening, a more widespread threat comes on Saturday with the approach of the next cool frontal system. Once that next cool front clears the east coast on Sunday, cooler and drier air will push into the area and it’ll stay cooler-than-normal on Monday and Tuesday as well.

Sunday

Becoming partly sunny, noticeably cooler and less humid, chance for an early shower, near 80

Monday

Mostly sunny, cool, upper 70’s

Discussion

A weak cool front passed through the region last night and it has ushered in a less humid air mass for the Mid-Atlantic region. High pressure builds back into the region today and we’ll have some sunshine both today and tomorrow with warm temperatures and fairly comfortable humidity levels. The humidity will build on Friday and there can be a shower or thunderstorm during the afternoon hours. On Saturday, the next cool front will approach and bring us a better chance for showers and thunderstorms during the late afternoon and evening hours. Much cooler and drier air will push into the region on Sunday and it'll remain cooler-than-normal on Monday and Tuesday as well.

7:00 AM | The hottest day of the week will be followed by some relief for Wednesday and Thursday

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mainly sunny skies this morning and then a mix of clouds and sun this afternoon, hot and humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms late in the day, highs in the low-to-mid 90’s

Tonight

Showers and thunderstorms possible this evening; otherwise, mostly cloudy skies and mild, lows by morning near 70 degrees

Wednesday

Mostly sunny skies, warm, less humid, upper 80’s

Wednesday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, some fog possible late, upper 60’s

Thursday

Mostly sunny, quite warm, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, upper 80’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, very warm, more humid, near 90

Saturday

Partly sunny, quite warm and humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 90

Sunday

Partly sunny, noticeably cooler, near 80

Discussion

The month of August ended with below normal temperatures in much of the Mid-Atlantic region which continued the trend begun in July; however, the first week of September will generally feature warmer-than-normal conditions. In fact, today could turn out to be the warmest day of the week with high temperatures this afternoon likely surpassing the 90 degree mark in most DC metro locations. There is relief on the way however. A weak cool front will pass through the area tonight and the result will be a pretty decent chance for early evening showers and thunderstorms. High pressure will build back into the area for Wednesday and Thursday providing us with warm temperatures and noticeably lower humidity levels. The heat and humidity will build up again on Friday and then, as another cool front approaches by the early weekend, the threat for showers and thunderstorms will increase for Friday night and Saturday. Once that next cool front passes through, noticeably cooler conditions will take hold in the Mid-Atlantic region on Sunday and Monday.

7:00 AM | Heat and humidity build up this weekend leading to an increased risk of showers and thunderstorms

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny skies, still pleasant, light winds, low 80’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy and cool, lows by morning in the low-to-mid 60’s

Saturday

Partly sunny skies, a bit warmer and more humid, mid 80’s

Saturday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, near 70

Sunday

More clouds than sun, quite warm and humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 90

Monday

More clouds than sun, quite warm and humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 90

Tuesday

More clouds than sun, quite warm and humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 90

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, quite warm, upper 80’s

Discussion

Very nice weather conditions will continue in the region for another day as we close out the work week, but then as high pressure pushes off the east coast this weekend, changes will come to our air mass with increasing heat and humidity. By Sunday afternoon, high temperatures around here should flirt with the 90 degree mark and there will be an increased shot at showers and thunderstorms although most of the day will be rain-free. The shower and thunderstorm threat will continue on Monday and Tuesday in the Mid-Atlantic region, but most of those days should be rain-free as well.

At the nearby Atlantic beaches, the high waves and rip currents of recent days should subside this weekend as the remains of Hurricane Cristobal continue to race away into the North Atlantic. In fact, it may one of those rare occasions in which there are no tropical storms to talk about in the Atlantic Basin during the normally active period around Labor Day - and perhaps no tropical cyclones anywhere across the globe.

7:00 AM | Quite nice today and Friday...increasing heat and humidity this weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, quite nice with noticeably lower humidity, a refreshing NW breeze, highs in the low-to-mid 80’s

Tonight

Mostly clear and quite cool, lows by morning not far from 60 degrees

Friday

Mostly sunny skies, still pleasant, light and variable winds, low 80’s

Friday Night

Partly cloudy, cool, low-to-mid 60’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, a bit warmer and more humid, mid 80’s

Sunday

More clouds than sun, quite warm and humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 90

Monday

More clouds than sun, quite warm and humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms, upper 80’s

Tuesday

Partly sunny, quite warm and humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms, upper 80’s

Discussion

A cool front moved through the region last and the result will be a much more comfortable air mass for today and Friday with slightly below normal temperatures and low humidity levels for this time of year. High pressure will be in charge through tomorrow, but then will slide off the east coast and this movement will allow for the return of much warmer and more humid air as the weekend progresses with an increasing shot at showers and thunderstorms. That threat for showers and thunderstorms will arrive on Sunday in much of the Mid-Atlantic region and continue on Monday and Tuesday as well. At the nearby Atlantic Ocean beaches, there will be high waves and possible rip currents today and on Friday as a result of the effects of Hurricane Cristobal which is racing away from the coastline towards the open North Atlantic. The high waves and rip current threat should subside this weekend.

7:00 AM | Very warm and humid today, but more comfortable air returns on Thursday and Friday

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, quite warm and humid, slight chance for a late day shower or thunderstorm, highs near 90 degrees

Tonight

Slight chance for an evening shower or thunderstorm; otherwise, partly cloudy skies, turning a little cooler late, lows by morning in the low-to-mid 60’s

Thursday

Mostly sunny skies, quite nice, noticeably lower humidity, low-to-mid 80’s

Thursday Night

Mostly clear, cool, low 60’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, still pleasant, low 80’s

Saturday

Partly-to-mostly sunny, warmer and more humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms at night, mid-to-upper 80’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, hot, humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 90

Monday

Mostly cloudy, not as warm, humid, still the chance for showers and thunderstorms, mid-to-upper 80’s

Discussion

High pressure will push off the coast today and a weak cool front will approach from the west. Heat and humidity will build up noticeably ahead of the front throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and there can be a widely scattered late day or early evening shower or thunderstorm, but no significant rainfall is expected along the I-95 corridor and it could actually remain completely rain-free during this frontal passage. Another refreshing air mass will push into the region for Thursday and Friday, but then the humidity will climb this weekend as this next high pressure system moves off the coast and there will be an increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms as we progress through the holiday weekend.

7:00 AM | Still pretty comfortable for August; holiday weekend becomes quite unsettled

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, comfortably warm, moderate humidity, highs in the mid 80’s

Tonight

Mainly clear, mild, lows in the lower 60’s

Wednesday

Mostly sunny skies, quite warm, humid, just a slight chance for a late day shower or thunderstorm, near 90 degrees

Wednesday Night

Partly cloudy, turning cooler late, low-to-mid 60’s

Thursday

Mostly sunny, very nice, low-to-mid 80’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, still pleasant, low 80’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, warmer, more humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms late, mid-to-upper 80’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms, mid-to-upper 80's

Discussion

High pressure will stay in control of our weather today and provide us with continued comfortable temperatures and humidity levels for late August. A weak cool front will cross the region tomorrow night and it’ll become warmer and more humid ahead of the frontal system on Wednesday. That front could spark a widely scattered shower or thunderstorm late tomorrow or early tomorrow night and then another refreshing air mass will push into the Mid-Atlantic for Thursday and Friday anchored by new high pressure. Once that next high pressure system pushes off the east coast at the end of the week, more humid air will return to the region and the threat for showers and thunderstorms will increase as the holiday weekend progresses. Elsewhere, Cristobal has reached weak hurricane status (category 1), but it will remain well off the east coast and head towards the open Atlantic later this week. Another tropical disturbance has formed in the eastern Atlantic and this system - as well as the entire Gulf of Mexico region - will have to be closely monitored during the next several days as atmospheric conditions will be increasingly favorable for tropical storm development.

7:00 AM | A fantastic start to the week in the Mid-Atlantic...Tropical Storm Cristobal to stay off the east coast

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, pleasant, highs in the low 80’s

Tonight

Mainly clear, cool, lows near 60 degrees

Tuesday

Mostly sunny skies, comfortably warm, moderate humidity, low-to-mid 80’s

Tuesday Night

Mostly clear, cool, low 60's

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, warmer and more humid, maybe a shower or thunderstorm at night, upper 80’s

Thursday

Partly sunny, warm, mid 80’s

Friday

Mainly sunny, pleasant, low 80’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, comfortable, low-to-mid 80’s

Discussion

High pressure now sitting over the Northeast US will be the main player on the weather scene during the next couple of days as it will remain rather stationary. As a result, there will be plenty of sunshine through tomorrow with relatively comfortable temperatures and humidity levels. By Wednesday, however, humidity and warmth will increase ahead of a cool frontal system as the high slides off the northeast coastline promoting a southwesterly flow of air. That front could spark a shower or thunderstorm Wednesday night before yet another refreshing air mass returns to the Mid-Atlantic region for the latter part of the week. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Cristobal formed yesterday near the Bahama Islands and all indications are that it will stay east of the US coastline this week before it turns away to the northeast. Cristobal certainly can reach hurricane status over the next couple of days as it meanders off the east coast and it will continue to be closely monitored.

7:00 AM | Unsettled weather continues into tomorrow; a cool weekend is coming as strong Canadian high pressure generates an ocean flow

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Partly sunny, a tad cooler than yesterday, humid, chance for showers and thunderstorms, highs near 85 degrees

Tonight

Mainly cloudy, mild, chance for showers and thunderstorms, lows in the mid-to-upper 60’s

Saturday

Mostly cloudy skies, cooler, still the chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 80

Saturday Night

Mostly cloudy, cool, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, low 60’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, quite cool, mid 70’s

Monday

Mostly sunny, still quite cool, mid-to-upper 70’s

Tuesday

Mainly sunny, pleasant, near 80

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, nice, low 80’s

Discussion

Unsettled weather will continue into tomorrow in the DC metro region with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible as additional upstream moisture rides along a frontal boundary zone. Cooler weather is in store for the weekend as strong Canadian high pressure will build southward into the area. Once this high takes control of the weather pattern, a persistent low-level flow of air will develop from the east-to-northeast. Temperatures will generally hold in the 70’s for highs this weekend and into the early part of next – well below normal for this time of year.
