Discussion

A warm front will cross our area early today and then a strong cold front will approach from the west late in the day. As a result, temperatures will jump this afternoon and there will be occasional showers and perhaps a strong thunderstorm or two mixed into the picture. The cold front will sweep off the coast by early tomorrow and this will pave the way for a decent weekend in the I-95 corridor although the breeze will be quite noticeable on Saturday.

Tuesday

Mostly cloudy, mild, chance for showers, low 70’s

Discussion

Persistent E-NE low-level winds will keep us cold for another day in the I-95 corridor, but then dramatic changes will occur on Friday as yesterday’s cold front becomes tomorrow’s warm front. Our winds will shift back to a southwesterly direction on Friday and temperatures will jump ahead of an approaching "west-to-east" moving cold frontal system. Drizzle or occasional showers are likely today and tonight and there will be some patchy fog around; especially, after midnight. Occasional showers are likely on Friday ahead of the next frontal system and there can be a strong thunderstorm or two mixed into the picture, but it will not be a total washout as we close out the work week. All of this inclement weather clears off the east coast by early Saturday paving the way for a pretty nice weekend in the I-95 corridor region although there will be a noticeable breeze on Saturday. The cherry blossoms should explode with the warmth on Friday and will be in peak form for the pleasant upcoming weekend.

7:00 AM | Much colder today and Thursday with stiff E-NE winds; occasional rain or drizzle will accompany the chill and some patchy fog is likely; weekend looking nice

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Cloudy and much colder than yesterday with a stiff E-NE wind, there will be occasional rain or drizzle and some patchy fog is possible as well, temperatures held to near 50 degrees for highs

Tonight

Occasional rain or drizzle, cold, patchy fog possible, lows by morning in the lower 40’s

Thursday

Cloudy and cold conditions with occasional rain or drizzle likely, a stiff E-NE wind, patchy fog possible, near 50 degrees

Thursday Night

Cloudy, breezy, cold, chance for more rain or drizzle, patchy fog possible, mid-to-upper 40’s early with temperatures rising late

Friday

Mostly cloudy, breezy, becoming much warmer, showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm, upper 70’s

Saturday

Mainly sunny, breezy, mild, mid-to-upper 60’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, mild, mid 60’s

Monday

Partly sunny, mild, maybe a shower late, mid-to-upper 60’s

Discussion

A meandering frontal system has been pushed southward in the Mid-Atlantic region during the overnight hours by a strengthening high pressure system which has expanded eastward from southeastern Canada into New England. This front will keep conditions unsettled around here right through Friday night with periods of rain, drizzle and fog. This front separates very mild air to the south and quite cold air to its north for this time of year. A persistent and stiff E-NE wind generated by the increasingly powerful high pressure system up north will ensure that DC, Philly and NYC remain on the cold side of the front right into tomorrow night. On Friday, this front will advance northward as a warm front as the strong high pressure system exits off the Northeast US coastline. As a result, our temperatures will jump as we close out the work week, but the threat for showers will continue as a cold front approaches from the west and thunderstorms are even possible. Drier weather is likely this weekend in the Mid-Atlantic region following the cold frontal passage along with pleasant temperatures.

7:00 AM | The remainder of the week will be quite unsettled and turning much cooler on Wednesday/Thursday

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mainly cloudy with occasional showers, maybe a thunderstorm, some of the rain can be heavy, still quite mild, highs in the low 70’s

Tonight

Occasional showers, maybe a thunderstorm, some of the rain can be heavy, turning colder late, lows by morning in the low 50’s

Wednesday

Occasional rain or drizzle, colder, a stiff E-NE wind, mid 50’s

Wednesday Night

Mostly cloudy, breezy, cold, chance for more rain or drizzle, low-to-mid 40’s

Thursday

Mostly cloudy, breezy, still quite chilly with more rain or drizzle, low 50's

Friday

Mostly cloudy, breezy, becoming much warmer, chance for showers, maybe a thunderstorm, mid-to-upper 70's

Saturday

Partly sunny, quite mild, upper 60's

Sunday

Mostly sunny, mild, mid-to-upper 60’s

Discussion

Unsettled weather will be the rule for the rest of the week as a frontal system will bounce back and forth in the Mid-Atlantic region. Showers threaten the region today and tonight as the frontal system drops southward through the I-95 corridor. By tomorrow, low-level E-NE winds will develop on the north side of the front in the I-95 corridor and it’ll turn noticeably colder. That chill will last into Thursday and both of these two chilly days will feature occasional rain or drizzle. The same frontal system will then turn around on Friday and push northward as a warm front and it’ll turn milder again around here as we close out the work week, but the threat for showers will continue.

7:00 AM | Nice weather for the Nationals Opening Day and then quite an unsettled week with numerous shower threats

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mainly sunny, quite mild, highs in the lower 70's

Tonight

Becoming mainly cloudy, mild, showers possible late, lows in the lower 50's

Tuesday

Mostly cloudy, quite mild, showers likely, maybe a thunderstorm, low 70's

Tuesday Night

Occasional rain, maybe a thunderstorm, cooler late, upper 40's by morning

Wednesday

Mostly cloudy, colder, showers likely, a stiff NE breeze develops, mid 50’s

Thursday

Mostly cloudy, cold, showers likely, low 50's

Friday

Mostly cloudy, becoming milder, showers likely, maybe a thunderstorm, low 70's

Saturday

Partly sunny, mild, near 70 degrees

Discussion

After today's nice weather for Opening Day for the Nationals, it will turn out to be quite an unsettled week as a frontal system will meander in the Mid-Atlantic region for several days threatening us with showers at times from tonight through Friday. First, the front will be positioned to our north for the next couple of days allowing for mild conditions in the area. Then, this front will sag south of here and a northeast wind will push in colder air for the region on Wednesday and Thursday. The same front will then push back to the north as a warm front as the work week closes out continuing our unsettled weather pattern and threat for showers as milder air returns.

7:00 AM | Rain and possible thunderstorms as low pressure forms along frontal system

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mainly cloudy, breezy and quite mild with occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm or two, highs near 70 degrees

Tonight

Periods of rain, possibly a thunderstorm or two, breezy, turning colder late, lows by morning near 50 degrees

Saturday

Lingering showers possible early in the morning; otherwise, partly sunny skies, windy, much cooler than Friday, mid 50’s

Saturday Night

Mostly clear, cold, mid 30’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, breezy, rather pleasant, near 60 degrees

Monday

Mostly sunny, milder, near 65 degrees

Tuesday

Mostly cloudy, mild, chance for showers, mid 60’s

Wednesday

Mostly cloudy, mild, chance for showers, low-to-mid 60’s

Discussion

A strong cold front is approaching the eastern states and low pressure will form along the frontal boundary zone later today and generate a soaking rainfall in the Mid-Atlantic region. Occasional showers today will evolve into a steadier rainfall by tonight and there can be a thunderstorm or two mixed in late in the day or tonight. Temperatures will stay on the mild side today, but then cooler air pushes into the region for Saturday following the frontal passage. Showers can linger into the early morning hours on Saturday, but skies should clear some during the afternoon although it’ll remain quite breezy. Both Sunday and Monday look relatively nice with decent temperatures for this time of year and dry conditions.

7:00 Am | Much milder today and Friday...rain and possible thunderstorms move in later tomorrow and tomorrow night ahead of frontal system

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Some sunshine, becoming windy and much milder, gusts to 30 mph possible, highs near 70 degrees

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, staying quite mild, showers likely late, lows near 55 degrees

Friday

Mainly cloudy, breezy and quite mild, periods of rain and perhaps a thunderstorm or two, near 70 degrees

Friday Night

Periods of rain, maybe a thunderstorm, breezy, turning colder late, upper 40’s

Saturday

Lingering showers possible early in the morning; otherwise, partly sunny skies, breezy, much cooler, mid 50’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, mild, low 60’s

Monday

Partly sunny, mild, mid 60’s

Tuesday

Mostly cloudy, mild, chance for showers, near 65 degrees

Discussion

Winds will increase noticeably today and shift to a southwesterly direction and this will usher in much milder air that will stick around on Friday as well. While the milder conditions will be accompanied by dry weather today and some sunshine, tomorrow’s warmth will be less enjoyable as it will come with occasional rain and perhaps a thunderstorm or two ahead of the next cold frontal system. Low pressure will form along the frontal boundary zone and this will enhance the rainfall tomorrow night and showers could then linger into early Saturday morning before pulling away. Cooler air will return to the region following the frontal passage for the upcoming weekend.

Sunday

Mostly sunny, mild, low-to-mid 60's

Monday

Partly sunny, mild, low-to-mid 60’s

Discussion

March ended yesterday on a chilly note across much of the Northeast US and the month as a whole was well below normal (map) in that part of the country. Today will turn out to be a drier day compared to the first two days of the work week, but it’ll be quite breezy and cold for the first day of April. Temperatures are likely to hold primarily in the 50’s this afternoon, but much milder air will advance northward into our region on Thursday. It’ll stay quite mild on Friday; however, showers are likely as the next cold front approaches from the northwest - perhaps even a thunderstorm or two. Lingering showers are possible early Saturday morning following the cold frontal passage and it’ll turn colder again as we begin the Easter weekend.

7:00 AM | Rain moves in later today...much milder weather in store for Thursday and Friday

Saturday

Partly sunny, colder, breezy, chance for showers early, mid-to-upper 50’s

Sunday

Mostly sunny, quite chilly for this time of year, mid 50’s

Discussion

Yet another disturbance will drop to the southeast today from the Great Lakes region and it should generate rain in the area from mid-afternoon through the early evening. Precipitation winds down later this evening from this fast-moving clipper system and Wednesday will be quiet, but rather chilly and breezy. Much milder air will advance northward into our region On Thursday and Friday stays quite mild, but showers are likely as the next cold front approaches from the northwest. Colder air will follow the late week frontal system just in time for the upcoming Easter weekend.

7:00 AM | A cold weekend gives way to moderation as we start the new work week...downright warm weather later this week

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Clouds early today will give way to sunshine, becoming quite breezy and milder with highs later today near 60 degrees

Tonight

Partly cloudy, chilly, lows in the mid 30’s

Tuesday

Becoming cloudy, breezy, mild, rain showers likely during the afternoon, near 60 degrees

Tuesday Night

Rain showers possible early then gradual clearing, chilly, mid-to-upper 30’s for lows

Wednesday

Mainly sunny, cool, mid 50’s

Thursday

Mostly sunny, becoming breezy, quite mild, upper 60’s

Friday

Mostly cloudy, very mild, showers likely, near 70 degrees

Saturday

Partly sunny, colder, breezy, chance for showers, mid-to-upper 50’s

Discussion

After a weekend with winter-like cold, temperatures will moderate noticeably by later today and there should be a significant warm up later in the week with 70 degrees possible on Thursday and Friday. A weak disturbance swinging by to our north this morning produced clouds and scattered rain, but it will push away this afternoon and skies should clear. High pressure will then take control for tonight and early Tuesday, but then yet another disturbance will drop to the southeast from the Great Lakes region and it should produce rain showers in the area later tomorrow and early tomorrow night. Following that second disturbance, Wednesday looks to be quiet, but cool, and then it’ll turn significantly milder on Thursday and Friday ahead of the next cold frontal system. That front is likely to generate showers in the region on Friday and then usher in colder air for the upcoming Easter weekend.
