A cool front will inch across the area later today and tonight and it will become the focus region for slow-moving showers and thunderstorms in the Mid-Atlantic region. Any storm that forms later today can become strong-to-severe with the potential of heavy downpours and damaging wind gusts. The front will stall out south of here on Thursday and its proximity will keep us unsettled late this week and during the weekend. Temperatures will not be as warm today as they were during the past couple of days and highs will likely hold in the 80’s right through the upcoming weekend. Elsewhere, the eastern Atlantic is looking quite active and we may have a tropical storm to monitor in the western Atlantic around this time next week.

Following the frontal passage, highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will likely be confined to the lower 80’s which is actually below-normal for late July and some 15-20 degrees cooler than the extreme heat of the past weekend. The much more reasonable weather pattern in terms of temperatures will likely last through the remainder of the month of July in the Mid-Atlantic region.

(Philly Airport hasn’t reached the 100 degree mark in the last 7 years). There is significant relief coming to the Midwest, NE US and Mid-Atlantic region next week and temperatures are quite likely going to be below-normal on Tuesday and Wednesday.
