Low pressure will keep it unsettled around here today with occasional showers and there can be a thunderstorm mixed in as well. High pressure will briefly move back into the region on Thursday, but another low pressure system could bring more rain here from Friday into Saturday and it’ll turn cooler as well. After that, low pressure is likely to stall just off the east coast at the same time strong high pressure builds to our northeast. It is still a bit too early to be certain, but it looks like the high pressure system will be in control of the weather around here on Sunday providing us with cool, breezy, and dry conditions for Mother’s Day. Looking ahead, that same high pressure system to our northeast could help to steer the stalled-out low pressure back towards the east coast sometime later next week.

The weather pattern will remain quite unsettled across much of the nation in coming days and there will be additional rainfall here in the Mid-Atlantic region on at least a couple of occasions. Today will be generally on the cloudy side and then the next system to impact us will bring showers here from tonight into Wednesday and there can be a thunderstorm or two mixed in as well. A pretty decent day is likely on Thursday before the next system arrives which appears destined to produce more rain here from Friday into Saturday. An unsettled week of weather is coming to the Mid-Atlantic region with multiple systems and chances of showers. Today will start off with clouds and showers, but they’ll clear the coast by the early afternoon hours and it should be generally rain-free through tonight. It’ll start out on the dry side tomorrow, but the next system will bring us a good chance of additional showers from Tuesday night into Wednesday and perhaps a thunderstorm or two. Yet another threatens to bring us more rain by the end of the work week. The weekend likely starts off unsettled, but there is a chance that Sunday, Mother’s Day, turns out to be rather nice.

A chilly air mass continues to reside in the northeastern part of the nation anchored by high pressure to our northwest and low pressure to our northeast. It turns slightly milder for the weekend, and it should stay rain-free until perhaps the Sunday evening time frame at which time showers could arrive here from an approaching frontal system. In fact, the weather remains unsettled here for much of next week with multiple systems crossing the country in a west-to-east fashion. In addition, another cold air mass is destined to arrive here at the end of next week in a continuation of a weather pattern that has resulted in numerous cold air outbreaks in recent weeks.

A chilly air mass pushed into the Mid-Atlantic region on Wednesday, and it’ll stay quite a bit below-normal for the next 24 hours with highs confined to the 50’s and overnight lows back down in the 30’s in most suburban locations. It turns a bit milder on Friday and the weekend is shaping up to be mild and likely on the dry side until perhaps late Sunday or Sunday night when showers could fall with an approaching frontal system.

A cold front passed through the region late yesterday and has ushered in a chilly air mass to the Mid-Atlantic region. Temperatures during the next 48 hours will be well below-normal for the end of April and overnight lows in the 30’s will be commonplace across suburban areas. The combination of departing low pressure to our northeast and approaching high pressure from our west will result in a persistent NW wind during the next couple of days that can gust past 30 mph at times. Some modification in temperatures will take place at week’s end and the weekend is looking rather quiet and mild for the most part with highs generally in the 60’s.

A cold front will close in on the region today bringing with it a good chance of showers; especially, from late in the afternoon into early tonight. Skies should clear after midnight as a colder air mass pushes into the Mid-Atlantic region and a stiff NW breeze will develop following the passage of the cold front. The next couple of days will feature windy conditions, daytime temperatures well below-normal for late April despite some sunshine on each day, and overnight lows in the 30’s in most suburbs. Some modification will take place in temperatures during the late week period and the weekend should begin on a quiet and mild note.

High pressure off New England will continue to produce an onshore flow around here limiting our temperatures somewhat today and resulting in some clouds. Showers will develop on Tuesday as a cold front approaches the region and much cooler air will move in for the mid-week period. Highs on Wednesday will be limited to the upper 50’s and it’ll be quite windy and then late night temperatures will drop down into the 30’s.

The warming trend that began at mid-week will continue today and afternoon temperatures are likely to peak near the 70 degree mark. It does turn a bit cooler on Saturday, but then a surge in temperatures on Sunday could result in afternoon highs not far from the 75 degree mark. Looking ahead, we are not quite done yet with the cold shots from Canada and another such air mass featuring below-normal temperatures will arrive here by the middle of next week and stick around into the subsequent weekend.

Temperatures could surge to 80 degrees this Sunday in parts of the Mid-Atlantic region, but as has been the case for much of the spring, this next warm up will not necessarily stick around for an extended period. In fact, signs point to another shot of cold air for the Mid-Atlantic region by the middle of next week and teleconnection indices suggest we may have to deal with unusually chilly air masses right into the first part of May with overnight lows in the 30’s.
