A much quieter week is in store for the local region as the remnants of Francine no longer will be a factor across northern Alabama. Drier air filtered into the area in the overnight hours and the next few days will be dominated by dry, warm conditions featuring some sunshine on a daily basis.

It remains warm during the next couple of days and winds will become a noticeable factor gusting up to 25 or 30 mph at times. There will be an isolated shower or thunderstorm later today and a better chance on Tuesday at which time some of the storms can be severe over the plains. Temperatures will reach the lower 80’s this afternoon – not as high as on Thursday – but the dry conditions will continue as will the risk of wildfire smoke in some areas. The remnants of Francine pushed northward on Thursday and has grinded to a halt in the western part of the Tennessee Valley as it is being heavily influenced by strong high pressure ridging stationed over southern Canada. As a result, the tropical moisture associated with Francine will continue to have an influence on our weather with a continuing chance of showers and thunderstorms...some of the rain can be heavy at times. In fact, the lingering moisture will keep us unsettled enough this weekend for the chance of showers and thunderstorms on both Saturday and Sunday.

Strong high pressure centered to our northeast will continue to control the weather around here right through the upcoming weekend. By early next week, with the strong high pressure system still positioned to our north and east, a tropical disturbance is likely to form somewhere near the Southeast US coastline. This system should then push slowly to the north potentially bringing some beneficial rainfall to the Mid-Atlantic region by later Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
