12:50 PM | Possible record-breaking heat coming...here are the numbers
Paul Dorian
Triple-digit highs will occur in parts of the Mid-Atlantic during the next few days as the dome of intense hot air that has been recently confined to the central Plains and Midwest finally blasts into the East. Some temperature records may be broken in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York City during this oppressive heat wave. The daily high temperature records for July 21 (Thursday), 22 (Friday) and 23rd (Saturday) are as follows: Philly (Intl Airport) 103 (1930), 100 (1957), 99 (1991)
DC (Reagan National) 104 (1926), 103 (1926), 101 (1991)
NYC (Central Park) 104 (1977), 101 (1957), 99 (1991)
The “all-time” high temperatures records for these locations are as follows:
Philly (Intl Airport) 106 (1918)
DC (Reagan National) 106 (1930, 1918)
NYC (Central Park) 106 (1936)
Heat indexes, which account for the humidity combined with the heat, can reach 110 degrees or so in the Mid-Atlantic region during this heat wave. Some relief in the extreme heat begins on Sunday.
