A cold front will approach the region from the north later today and then it’ll stall out in the region this weekend and waves of low pressure will ride along the boundary zone. As a result, the chance for showers and thunderstorms will increase later tonight and that threat will continue right through the upcoming weekend, but there should be some rain-free time as well. High pressure developing to our north on Sunday will try to bring some clearing to the Mid-Atlantic region with better chances for improving weather in New York City, but not so good in areas south of the PA/MD border such as here in the DC metro region.

Today will probably turn out to be the nicest day of the week with high pressure in control producing some sunshine and comfortable temperatures for this time of year. A cold front will approach the region on Friday and then stall out nearby this weekend. As a result, the chance for showers and thunderstorms will increase as we head into Friday night and that threat will continue this weekend, but it doesn’t look like a total washout. Temperatures should remain relatively comfortable through the weekend and into the early part of next week.

A cold front passed through the region last night and high pressure will take control around here for the next couple of days resulting in overall nice weather conditions. Another cold front will approach the region on Friday and then likely stall out near here this weekend. Perhaps not surprisingly, the weekend is likely to become quite unsettled (once again) given the nearby frontal boundary zone and showers and thunderstorms are likely to threaten for at least part of the time. Strong high pressure to our north is likely to push the stalled out frontal boundary zone southward early next week resulting in improving weather conditions.

A cold front will approach the region later today and it is likely to generate some shower and thunderstorm activity from later this afternoon into the evening hours. While this will be a quick hitting event and little in the way of total rainfall amounts, there can be a few isolated strong storms with gusty winds and even some possible hail. Following the nighttime frontal passage, high pressure will take control of our weather on Wednesday and Thursday with quite nice weather conditions expected across the Mid-Atlantic region albeit a bit cooler-than-normal. The grounds are already well saturated in the DC metro region after recent rains and any additional significant rainfall can result in localized flash flooding. Tropical moisture is deeply entrenched in the eastern third of the nation and multiple disturbances over the next few days will “squeeze out” the abundant moisture in the atmosphere resulting in occasional downpours and embedded thunderstorms.
