11:45 AM | *A split nation next 6-10 days…colder than normal western half…warmer than normal eastern half*

Paul Dorian

The next week to ten days or so will feature quite differing weather conditions across the nation with colder-than-normal temperatures across the western half and warmer-than-normal in the eastern half. An upper-level trough of low pressure will park itself over the western US in coming days and a strong ridge of high pressure will center itself over eastern Canada and the eastern US. By the third week of October, this upper-level ridge of high pressure may “retrograde” back into central Canada and this shift could allow for a big cool down in the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast US by the 18th or 19th of October.

Paul Dorian

High pressure parked over northern New England will remain as the main player in the Mid-Atlantic region during the next couple of days providing us with partial sunshine and plenty of moisture in low-levels of the atmosphere. Low pressure will develop near the coast this weekend generating cooler, breezy and unsettled conditions including a threat of rain which can turn out to be on the heavy side in parts of the Mid-Atlantic.

7:00 AM | *Stays on the cool, moist side with plenty of clouds*

Paul Dorian

The lower levels of the atmosphere will remain quite moist through the week with the combination of strong high pressure to our northeast and an upper-level low pressure system nearby. As a result, there will be plenty of clouds around and a threat for some late night patchy fog. Another low pressure system will approach the region this weekend and this system will enhance the chance of showers and bring us cooler temperatures.

7:00 AM | *An unsettled start to an unsettled week*

Paul Dorian

Our stretch of dry weather in the Mid-Atlantic region has come to an end and it’ll be somewhat unsettled for the next several days. A weak cold front will try to push through the region today and it’ll result in possible light rain at times this morning and also help to generate scattered PM showers and thunderstorms. The dominate player for the mid and late week will be a strong high pressure system to our northeast and this will result in onshore flow and a decent amount of low-level moisture in the area.

7:00 AM | *A wet pattern setting up for much of next week in the eastern US*

Paul Dorian

High pressure will remain in control of the weather around here through much of the weekend, but clouds will increase later Sunday and showers could fall by late Sunday afternoon or Sunday night. It looks like once the threat of showers returns to the Mid-Atlantic region at the end of the weekend, it’ll stick around for much of next week. In fact, it could turn into quite a wet week with some significant rainfall possible during the second half of next week.

7:00 AM | *A nice start to the week in the Mid-Atlantic region...keeping an eye on Hurricane Sam*

Paul Dorian

High pressure is in control as we begin the new work week, but the arrival of a weak frontal system will bring some clouds to the area tonight and Tuesday and perhaps a shower or two. Following the front, more high pressure will push into the Mid-Atlantic region and result in generally cool and dry weather for the mid and late week time periods. Meanwhile, Hurricane Sam is churning over the Atlantic and needs to be closely monitored. As high pressure builds into the southeastern part of Canada in coming days, Hurricane Sam could take a turn towards the Northeast US/New England during the upcoming weekend.
