Temperatures reached the 75 degree mark on Tuesday and will climb into the 80’s later today and likely reach 80 degrees again on Thursday afternoon just ahead of the next cool frontal system. There can be a shower or thunderstorm on occasion during the next couple of days, but much of the time will be rain-free. In fact, any late day or evening thunderstorms on Thursday can be on the strong side. A cool front passes through on Thursday night and the work week will end on a slightly cooler note and then colder air will follow for Easter Sunday following the passage of a another cold front on Saturday night.

High pressure pushes off the coast today and that re-positioning will open the door here for much warmer weather during the next few days. After morning clouds and a possible shower or two, the afternoon will feature clearing skies and temperatures will jump to the middle 70’s. On Wednesday and Thursday, it turns even warmer with a run to 80+ degrees each day and there can be a shower and thunderstorm from time-to-time. High pressure builds into the region today and will control our weather resulting in mainly sunny skies. After a cold and in some spots, frosty start to the day, sunshine will boost afternoon temperatures to near 70 degrees and we’ll turn even warmer on Tuesday. In fact, temperatures on Tuesday will climb into the mid 70’s across the DC metro region and will flirt with the 80 degree mark on Wednesday and Thursday.

The weather pattern continues to be active today as a strong cold front slides eastward into the Mid-Atlantic region and low pressure will form near the east coast along the frontal boundary zone. As a result, more rain will fall today in the region and there can be a thunderstorm or two mixed into the picture. After the surface low pressure system pushes away, a large scale upper-level trough will edge overhead on Friday and this system will produce cool and unsettled conditions on Friday afternoon and evening with the likelihood of more shower activity. It stays cool on Saturday as well and there can be an additional shower or two as it’ll remain somewhat unstable with chilly air in the upper part of the atmosphere. Looking ahead, a much warmer pattern will evolve next week in the eastern states and we’ll likely return to the 70’s by next Tuesday afternoon.

It’s time once again to “Play Ball”…at least the openers are on the schedule for many cities on Thursday and an additional bunch of locations on Friday. The weather is not being very cooperative, however, and there have actually already been a couple of postponements for games originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon. An active weather pattern across the nation will bring about numerous showers and cool conditions on Thursday, Thursday night and Friday in the northeastern quadrant of the nation, winds will remain quite strong in much of the nation’s mid-section, and excessive heat will be a factor for baseball being played in southern California.
