The pattern remains unsettled today in the Denver metro region with the continuing chance of showers and thunderstorms. Any storm that forms will likely be a slow mover which raises the chance for heavy rainfall and flash flooding in some areas. The overall pattern becomes warmer and drier this weekend across the Rocky Mountain States.

The highlights of our overall weather pattern during the next several days will be increased moisture levels at mid-week and soaring temperatures this weekend. In fact, the rain can be heavy at times on Wednesday with very moist conditions and temperatures this weekend and beyond could soar way up in the 90’s as strong high pressure ridging develops overhead.

It’ll be cooler today with afternoon highs in the low-to-middle 80’s compared to the 90’s on Tuesday. It stays unsettled, however, with the chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening and some of the storms can be on the severe side. The active weather pattern will continue through the late week and weekend with additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms on the table.

The All-Star break has arrived for big-league baseball which always features a Home Run Derby that’ll take place this evening in Atlanta, Georgia and the All-Star game will be played on Tuesday night. The weather looks quite hot and humid both for tonight’s Home Run Derby and tomorrow’s game and Tuesday can feature scattered showers and thunderstorms in the area. The high heat and humidity expected for this evening in Atlanta should be quite favorable for baseballs to carry so there are likely to be some mammoth shots in Truist Park. Winds will not be much of a factor during the next couple of nights, but a recent detailed analysis confirms the notion that winds can be highly influential in the distance a ball can travel and there were some surprising findings.

The next few days will be among the hottest of the summer so far with afternoon highs in the middle 90’s today and Thursday and a flirtation with the 100-degree mark is likely on Wednesday. There can be scattered showers and thunderstorms later today, but Wednesday and Thursday are liable to be completely rain-free to go along with the very hot conditions.
