7:00 AM | Chilly start to the new work week

Paul Dorian

A chilly start to the new work week in the wake of an upper-level system that brought rain to the region over the weekend. High pressure extending from the Upper Midwest to the Gulf of Mexico will build eastward into the Tennessee Valley and it could lead to some gusty winds around here today. The center of the high moves overhead late tonight and conditions will be favorable for considerably cooling – perhaps to freezing in spots. A warming trend will begin by mid-week as the high pressure slides by to our east and our chances for showers will increase later in the week.

7:00 AM | *Low pressure heads towards the Tennessee Valley with a chilly rain*

Paul Dorian

It’ll remain on the dry side today as we close out the work week, but a chilly, rain event is on the way. Low pressure will pull out of the south-central states on Saturday and head northeast towards the Tennessee Valley bringing us the likelihood of shower activity for much of this weekend. Ultimately, this low pressure system will transfer from the Tennessee Valley to the North Carolina coastline by late in the weekend.

7:00 AM | *Secondary frontal system ushers in even cooler air for today*

Paul Dorian

A strong cold front swept through the region late Tuesday and a secondary front will usher in even cooler air for Tuesday in the Tennessee Valley. Temperatures today will likely be confined to the lower 40’s for highs and then drop way down in the 20’s for overnight lows. After a dry, but chilly Friday, low pressure will pull out of the south-central states and head northeast bringing us the likelihood of shower activity this weekend.

7:00 AM | *Much cooler for the remainder of the week*

Paul Dorian

Yesterday featured high temperatures in the mild middle 60’s, but a strong cold front has swept through the region and ushered in much colder air for the remainder of the week. High temperatures during the second half of the week will generally be confined to the 40’s and overnight lows will be in the 20’s. By the early part of the weekend, low pressure will begin to organize over the Gulf and make a move to the northeast bringing us a renewed threat of showers.

Paul Dorian

There will be one more mild day in the Tennessee Valley as temperatures later today climb into the 60’s, but a strong cold front will usher in noticeably colder air for the mid and late week time periods. High temperatures during the second half of the week will generally be confined to the 40’s and overnight lows will be in the 20’s. By the early part of the weekend, low pressure will begin to organize over the Gulf and make a move to the northeast bringing us a renewed threat of showers.

7:00 AM | Colder for the second half of the week

Paul Dorian

The new week will start off with a frontal passage in the Tennessee Valley, but it will not have much upper-level support and should not result in any rainfall. Temperatures today should climb to the 60’s and it’ll stay milder than normal for early January on Tuesday as well. Another frontal system will pass through the region tomorrow night and it’ll usher in much colder air for the mid and latter parts of the week.

7:00 AM | Low pressure pulls away in time for a nice weekend

Paul Dorian

Low pressure will pull out the Gulf states today and head northeast towards the Tennessee Valley region. As a result, the threat for showers will continue today and given cooling aloft, there may even be a rumble of thunder or two. The low pressure system will exit the area early tonight and high pressure will build in from west-to-east early this weekend. Both weekend days are likely to feature plenty of sunshine with only moderately cool temperatures on Saturday and then milder conditions early next week.

7:00 AM | More rain for the Tennessee Valley

Paul Dorian

An active pattern will result in more rain for the Tennessee Valley over the next couple of days. There may be lingering showers here today and then another round arrives late tonight and continues on Friday as a strong low pressure system pulls out of the southern states. The weekend looks quite nice from this vantage point as high pressure takes over and temperatures should rebound to the 60 degree mark by Sunday afternoon.

7:00 AM | Two more low pressure systems bring rain to the Tennessee Valley in this continuing active weather pattern

Paul Dorian

An active pattern over the next few days will result in a couple different low pressure systems that will impact the Tennessee Valley. There will be occasional rain today, tonight and early Thursday from the first system pulling to the northeast from the southern states. A second and stronger system will push more rain into our area by Friday and we’ll have to wait until the weekend for better weather. In fact, the weekend looks quite nice as high pressure takes over and temperatures rebound to the 60 degree mark by Sunday afternoon.

2:15 PM | *Active weather pattern continues into the new year with two systems to monitor for next week*

Paul Dorian

As the eastern US suffers through yet another soaking rain event to close out this shortened work week, seeds are already being sown for another rain event early next week as this active weather pattern looks like it will continue right into the new year.  Today’s system plunged into the Southwest US earlier this week and is now headed towards the Great Lakes region and well to the west of the I-95 corridor.  Given this well inland track, warmer air has surged northward along the eastern seaboard resulting in plain rain around here and it looks like there may be a repeat performance by the atmosphere early next week.

On Monday, strong energy in the upper atmosphere will pull out of the Southwest US and head towards the eastern Great Lakes - once again keeping the east coast in the warm sector with plain rain likely from later Monday into early Tuesday.  Colder air will then filter into the Mid-Atlantic region at mid-week at the same time another strong wave of energy drops into the Southwest US.  It is still unclear and many days away, but there is a chance that this system may end up taking more of a southern track late next week which would make it a bit trickier in terms of rain versus snow in the Mid-Atlantic region; however, cold air will likely only be marginal.
