A cold front will slide through the region today and there will be an occasional shower, maybe even an isolated thunderstorm. High pressure will take control for tonight and Saturday, but then another cold frontal system may touch off a rain shower early Sunday morning. Low pressure will push to our south late Sunday night and early Monday and it could bring some snow and/or rain to southern parts of the region - even an outside chance at small snow accumulations.

The next two days will feature the mildest conditions we’ve seen in awhile around here with highs in the mid 50’s this afternoon and likely near 60 degrees on Friday. A cold front will slide through later tomorrow and there will be occasional showers tonight and for the first half of Friday. Cooler air moves into the region for Saturday and another frontal system could produce a rain or snow shower here on Sunday morning. One final note, the Mets open up at home this afternoon and temperatures should reach the mid 50's, but there will be the threat for light rain or drizzle.

There will be a noticeable warm up on Thursday in the I-95 corridor with 70+ degrees possible in the DC metro region and 60+ degrees in Philly, but then a cold front slides through the region on Friday and cooler air will arrive for the weekend. Another frontal system will arrive on Sunday and this will step us down a bit more in temperatures for the early part of next and there will be additional cold air outbreaks later next week. In addition to the colder pattern, we'll have at least a couple of low pressure systems to monitor in terms of snow for parts of the Mid-Atlantic region. One wave of low pressure could generate a swath of rain and/or snow on Monday and then a second - and perhaps stronger system - will need to be monitored for the latter part of next week or the following weekend.

The next few days will be warmer, but quite unsettled as a series of fronts will impact the region. As a result, there can be showers at just about any time from today through Friday, but then drier conditions are likely to return by the weekend. A cold front will pass through on Friday and usher in drier air for Saturday and it’ll turn cooler as well with highs confined to the 50’s on both weekend days.

There will be a noticeable warm up over the next few days in the Mid-Atlantic region, but it looks like this will be just a temporary spring tease as colder-than-normal conditions are likely to return for the first ten days or so of April and some signs point to a colder-than-normal pattern continuing much longer than that - perhaps even into May. In addition to the cold, there will likely be some close calls with respect to snow in the I-95 corridor in April and it is just too early to give an all clear on that particular front.

Clouds will increase today as a warm front pushes north from the Tennessee Valley and there will be the threat for showers from late today into Wednesday. It’ll turn warmer for the second half of the work week, but showers will continue to threaten the area as a cold front approaches from the middle of the country. That cold front will usher in cooler air for the weekend and the overall pattern for the first half of April will be colder-than-normal for most of the northern half of the nation and southern Canada.

It’ll turn warmer this week with temperatures climbing to near 50 degrees on Tuesday and perhaps as high as 60 degrees by Thursday and Friday afternoons, but it’ll turn wetter as well with multiple chances of showers. High pressure pushes to the east as we begin the new week and this will allow for the return of somewhat milder air, but moisture will also head our way from the southern states and several fronts will approach the region. A colder-than-normal air mass will first appear later next week across southwestern and south-central Canada and then expand south and east so that by next weekend there will be a “wall of cold” virtually covering all of southern Canada and the northern US including right here in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The next low pressure system of interest will drop southeast from the Northern Plains early this weekend, but it should then slide far enough to our south to spare the region of any appreciable precipitation only likely to impact places like southern Virginia and North Carolina. After that system passes, it looks like it’ll turn warmer by the middle part of next week, but that warm up may just last a few days as a colder-than-normal pattern looks like it will return at the beginning of April (i.e., next weekend).

Low pressure is pulling away from the coastline today and we’ll have some clearing skies, but it stays quite cold for this time of year. The next low pressure system to watch will drop southeast from the Northern Plains this weekend and it should slide far enough to our south to spare the region of another round of snow– but it is still too close for comfort and bears watching. After that system passes, it looks like it’ll get somewhat warmer next week, but that warm up may just be temporary as colder air is likely to return as we begin April.
