7:00 AM | *Hot and humid again today, but relief is on the way...tropics to get active as we soon as we turn to September*

Paul Dorian

Hot and humid weather will continue for another day around here with high temperatures climbing towards the middle 90's, but relief is on the way. In fact, by the time Friday afternoon rolls around high temperatures may be closer to the middle 70’s thanks to an easterly flow of air compared to the possible middle 90's later today. A cool front will approach the area on Thursday and raise the chances for afternoon showers and thunderstorms and then it’ll grudgingly pass to our southeast on Friday as it weakens. It’ll stay close enough to keep it unsettled around here on Friday and during the upcoming weekend with a good chance for clouds and even some occasional shower and thunderstorm activity. Elsewhere, the Atlantic Basin tropical scene has been relatively quiet in August, but it looks like the calendar change to September will bring about a significant change. There are signs for a burst of activity in the tropical Atlantic during the first couple weeks of September and there could be a tropical storm near Florida or the Gulf of Mexico as early as next Monday (Labor Day).

7:00 AM | Hot and humid through tomorrow...not nearly as warm late this week and this weekend

Paul Dorian

Hot and humid weather will last through tomorrow around here with high temperatures the next couple of days in the low-to-mid 90’s along the I-95 corridor. A cool front will approach the area on Thursday and raise the chances for afternoon showers and thunderstorms and then grudgingly pass to our southeast on Friday. It’ll stay close enough to keep it unsettled around here on Friday and during the upcoming weekend and temperatures will not be nearly as warm as the next couple of days.

7:00 AM | Heat and humidity into the day on Thursday at which time a cool front arrives

Paul Dorian

High pressure that provided us with great weather late last week and into the weekend has pushed off the coast and this has allowed for the return flow of very warm and humid air into our area as we begin the new work week. The hot and humid pattern looks like it will stick around into the day on Thursday at which time a cool front will arrive from the northwest with possible showers and thunderstorms. It won't be as warm on Friday and Saturday and it'll stay somewhat unsettled as the cool front stalls out nearby.

7:00 AM | Another nice day around here today and a decent weekend...hot and humid next week

Paul Dorian

Our great weather will continue today in the Mid-Atlantic region thanks to high pressure still sitting to our west as we end the work week. This high pressure system, however, will slide to our east later this weekend and the return flow on the backside of the high will allow for warmer and more humid conditions as we go into early next week. High temperatures on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday should return to the 90 degree mark along with more uncomfortable humidity levels and the hotter and more humid weather pattern could very well last right through Labor Day weekend.

7:00 AM | Spectacular weather next few days...heat and humidity returns next week

Paul Dorian

A cool front passed through the region last night and its passage has brought us some welcome relief from the recent high humidity levels and wet pattern. Humidity will stay on the low side well into the weekend and tonight's late night low temperatures should bottom out in the very comfortable upper 50's in some spots. Heat and humidity will return during the first half of next week with 90 degree highs back on the table and it looks like it can stay on the hot and humid side right through Labor Day weekend. Elsewhere, Hurricane Lane has weakened in the last 24 hours or so from a 936 millibar central pressure reading early yesterday to 949 millibars this morning as it slowly churns near the Hawaiian Islands.

7:00 AM | *Cool frontal passage later today to usher in a few nice days*

Paul Dorian

A cool front will move from west-to-east today from the Ohio Valley towards the east coast and it is likely to generate only isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The frontal passage later today will set the stage for nice weather here beginning on Thursday and lasting through the upcoming weekend. Some spots could actually see the upper 50's for overnight lows on either of the next couple of nights and humidity levels will stay comfortably low during this nice stretch of weather. It will turn hotter again by Sunday and Monday with 90 degree highs back on the table again as we start the new work week.

7:00 AM | *Threat for showers and storms later today, tonight and Wednesday...stretch of nice weather begins on Thursday*

Paul Dorian

A northward-moving warm front will approach the region later today and this will combine with a vigorous eastward-moving upper-level system over the Great Lakes to increase the chances for showers and thunderstorms later today. That threat for showers and thunderstorms storms will continue tonight and on Wednesday as well as a cool front moves from the Ohio Valley to the eastern seaboard. The passage of the cool front will set the stage for a very nice stretch of weather here beginning Thursday and continuing right through the upcoming weekend - likely breaking the trend of our recent wet weekends. Temperatures and humidity levels later this week and into the early part of the weekend will remain at comfortable levels following a bit of a warm-up on Wednesday afternoon just ahead of the front. It turns hotter and more humid by early next week.

7:00 AM | *Great late week weather, but first more showers/storms from later tomorrow into Wednesday*

Paul Dorian

High pressure across New England will nose in today from the north and produce a comfortable start to the new work week with some sunshine and highs near 80 degrees. A strong upper-level trough will drop southeastward across the Great Lakes on Tuesday and this will lead to more showers and thunderstorms around here from late tomorrow into Wednesday. Some of the rain late tomorrow associated with this upper-level energy can be heavy at times. Large high pressure will head our way from the middle of the country for the latter part of the week and we’ll have a nice stretch of weather beginning on Thursday and likely last through the upcoming weekend with comfortable temperatures.

1:15 PM | *Significant rain for much of the Northeast US/Mid-Atlantic next several days will fall on already well-saturated grounds**

Paul Dorian

It has been a very wet summer in much of the Northeast US/Mid-Atlantic and significant rain is likely to fall in many areas over the next several days.  In fact, I think the chances are quite high that some spots see several inches of new rainfall between late today and the middle of next week and this will fall on already well-saturated grounds.  A slow-moving cool frontal system will only grudgingly move across the area over the next 48 hours and this will result in numerous rounds of showers and thunderstorms beginning late today and lasting well into the upcoming weekend. This will make it the 10th weekend of the past 13 with some rainfall in at least parts of the Northeast US/Mid-Atlantic.   Another front will approach the area late Tuesday and it’ll be supported by a vigorous upper-level energy which is likely to result in more downpours come late Tuesday/early Wednesday.

7:00 AM | *Showers/storms late today/early tonight with arrival of next front...more rain to dampen yet another weekend*

Paul Dorian

A frontal system will approach the area later today and raise our chances considerably for showers and thunderstorms after a couple of rain-free days. The rain can be heavy at times during this frontal passage and some of the storms can be on the strong side. This front will be slow to move away from our area, and yes, this stalling out of the front will lead to yet another unsettled weekend around here. Lingering showers are likely with possible thunderstorms on Saturday and Saturday night and they cannot be ruled out for Sunday either. Cooler conditions are expected here on Sunday and it’ll stay comfortable during the early part of next week.
