2:15 PM | Snow in the interior Northeast US on Sunday?

Paul Dorian

Discussion

A very impressive cold air mass for early October is already affecting parts of the country and it will spread to the east coast on Sunday. In fact, by the latter part of the weekend, there will be a widespread chill in the country from the east coast to Texas to Montana. Also, there will likely be several inches of snow over the next couple of days from the Rockies to the Northern Plains as the cold air pours in from the northwest. A second push of cold air should produce the first accumulating snow of the season in the Denver, Colorado metro region early this weekend. While cold air outbreaks are not uncommon for October, it is very striking to see 30 degrees below normal as is likely to be the case in, for example, Denver on Saturday. Dallas, Texas will likely drop from the mid 80’s for highs on Friday to the mid 50’s on Saturday.

Meanwhile, as the powerhouse cold front closes in on the east coast this weekend, it appears that a wave of low pressure will develop in the East along the frontal boundary zone. As a result, with the combination of the cold air advancing to the east and the intensifying low pressure system, snowflakes could break out later this weekend in some of the higher elevation locations of West Virginia and western and northern Pennsylvania, and also in the interior sections of New York and New England as that low head to the northeast. Temperatures on Sunday in the Mid-Atlantic region will likely hold in the 50’s as periods of rain coincide with the arrival of the colder air. Looking ahead, it looks like there are more cold air outbreaks waiting in the wings.

7:00 AM | Cold air pours into the central Rockies; reinforcing shot this weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, much colder, highs only reaching the low-to-mid 50’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, cold, lows by morning in the mid 30’s

Friday

Partly sunny, breezy, cold, chance for a few showers, upper 40's

Friday Night

Mostly cloudy, windy, cold, some snow possible, near 30 degrees by morning

Saturday

Partly sunny, cold, a few snow showers possible, near 40

Sunday

Mostly sunny, chilly, mid 50’s

Monday

Mostly sunny, warmer, mid 60’s

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, cool, low 60’s

Discussion

A strong cold front passed through the region overnight and the change in temperatures will be quite dramatic for today. An even stronger cold front should come through Friday night possibly accompanied by some snow and temperatures on Saturday will get no higher than 40 degrees with a few snow showers likely. Just how cold is this air mass...these kinds of high temperatures expected on Saturday are some 30 degrees below normal for this time of year. Temperatures will relax somewhat as we begin the new week with highs in the 60’s likely on Monday and Tuesday, but there are other cold air outbreaks waiting in the wings.

Discussion

An increasing marine flow of air will begin a cooling trend in the region early this weekend. Temperatures will hold at comfortable levels over the next couple of days, but then the trend this weekend will be down. In fact, it appears as if the temperatures may hold at slightly below normal levels for the first half of next week.

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, breezy and turning noticeably colder with the chance for some rain and snow, lows by morning in the upper 30’s

Thursday

Mostly sunny, much cooler, highs only reaching the low 50’s

Discussion

A strong cold front will pass through the region late today and the change will be dramatic overnight. Winds will pick up tonight and temperatures will drop towards the 30’s, and a little rain and snow is possible as the cold air rushes into the central Rockies region. An even stronger cold front could come through by the weekend and temperatures on Saturday will likely hold in the 40’s.

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, fog possible late, lows in the mid 60’s

Thursday

Early morning low clouds and fog giving way to mostly sunny skies, not as warm, highs in the low 70’s

Discussion

The extreme heat of recent days will continue to retreat as an onshore flow of air has formed and this will promote a cooling trend over the next few days. Along with the return to more seasonal temperatures will come the possibility for late night and early morning low clouds and fog along coastal regions.

7:00 AM | Colder and colder later this week

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, warm, highs near 80 degrees

Discussion

A strong cold front will pass through the region Wednesday night and this will lead to much cooler temperatures for Thursday with highs struggling to escape the mid 50’s. A little rain or snow could accompany the frontal passage late Wednesday night and early Thursday. An even stronger cold front could come through by the weekend and temperatures on Saturday may hold in the 40’s.

7:00 AM | Continued very warm today, but there is relief coming

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, very warm, highs in the mid-to-upper 80’s near coastal regions and even higher inland

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, lows in the mid 60’s

Wednesday

Becoming mostly sunny, warm, highs near 80

Wednesday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, mid-to-upper 60’s

Thursday

Mostly sunny, not as warm, mid 70’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, pleasant, low 70's

Saturday

Some fog early then partly sunny, pleasant, low 70's

Sunday

Some fog early then partly sunny, pleasant, upper 60’s

Discussion

Strong upper-level high pressure continues to dominate the weather scene today across California and well above normal temperatures and a higher fire danger will persist for one more day. The good news; however, is that a cooling trend is likely to begin tomorrow bringing us back to normal by later in the week and perhaps even slightly below normal by the weekend. As the week progresses, the strong upper-level ridge will slowly weaken and this will allow for an onshore flow of air to resume generating the expected cooling trend.

7:00 AM | Another sharp cool down by Thursday and then a reinforcing shot of even colder air by the weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, cool, highs near 70 degrees

Tonight

Partly cloudy, cool, lows by morning in the upper 40’s

Tuesday

Partly sunny, not as cool, highs in the upper 70’s

Tuesday Night

Partly cloudy, not as cool as recent nights, low 50’s

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, pleasant, low 70’s; turning colder at night with possible rain or snow

Thursday

Mostly sunny, much cooler, upper 50's

Friday

Mostly sunny, chilly, near 60

Saturday

Partly sunny, even colder, maybe a little rain or snow, near 50

Discussion

Upper level high pressure dominates the weather scene across much of the interior west and it’ll be quite a pleasant start to the new work week. Temperatures will warm some on Tuesday, but much cooler weather is destined to reach the central Rockies later this week. In fact, temperatures may struggle by Thursday to reach the 60 degree mark for highs following one strong cold frontal passage, and then struggle to reach 50 degrees by the first part of the weekend after a second frontal passage.

7:00 AM | Extreme, and possible record-breaking, heat to start the new week and month

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny with extreme warmth and a possible record-breaker, highs near 90 degrees close to the coast and even higher inland

Tonight

Partly cloudy, breezy, mild, lows in the mid 60’s

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, still very warm, mid-to-upper 80’s near the coast and even warmer inland

Tuesday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, mid-to-upper 60’s

Wednesday

Mostly sunny, warm, low 80’s

Thursday

Mostly sunny, not as warm, mid-to-upper 70's

Friday

Mostly sunny, pleasant, near 70

Saturday

Partly sunny, pleasant, upper 60’s

Discussion

Strong upper-level high pressure dominates the weather scene across California and will continue to do so into tomorrow. As a result, extreme heat is likely to begin the week with 90’s possible near coastal sections and triple digits further inland. Today will likely turn out to be the hottest day in this heat wave as the offshore flow reverses by mid-week to onshore; however, temperatures will still remain above normal into mid-week.
