6:15 AM | *The 80's rule for the week as high pressure takes control in the SE US*

Paul Dorian

As we start the new work week, an upper-level ridge of high pressure builds across the southeastern states. As a result, low-level winds from a south-to-southwest direction will develop bringing warmer and more humid air into the region. The dry weather pattern will continue as well during the next few days with little to no rainfall expected in the Tennessee Valley.

6:15 AM - *A chilly start to the new work week...near 90 degrees by Wednesday and Thursday*

Paul Dorian

Strong high pressure builds just to the south of here today and it’ll be in control of the weather for the next few days. As it gradually slides to the south and east, a warming trend will get underway and temperatures will climb from a chilly start to the day this morning to near 90 degrees for afternoon highs on Wednesday and Thursday. The weather becomes somewhat unsettled late in the week with a weak upper-level trough forming in the eastern states.

One final note, while not a record, the low temperature of 48 degrees on Sunday morning at Washington’s Reagan National Airport (DCA) was the first June day below 50 since the 49 degrees on June 1, 1984, and the lowest June temperature since 47 degrees occurred on June 11, 1972 (which happened to be the month that featured Tropical Storm Agnes).

6:15 AM | *Turns quite a bit cooler after today with an increasing chance of showers/thunderstorms*

Paul Dorian

An unsettled weather pattern develops for the next few days and one that will turn much cooler in the area. After high temperatures today at 80+ degrees, cooler air moves in on Monday night and Tuesday along with an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures on Tuesday should be limited to near 60 degrees for highs and then the low-to-mid 60’s are likely on Wednesday.

As it gradually slides to the south and east, a warming trend will get underway and temperatures will climb from a chilly start to the day this morning to the upper 80’s for afternoon highs on Wednesday and Thursday…in fact, 90 degrees is on the table for a few spots. The weather becomes somewhat unsettled late in the week with a weak upper-level trough forming in the eastern states.

6:15 AM | ***A heavy rain event on the way from late today into later Saturday...can include strong-to-severe thunderstorms...turns drier, much warmer next week***

Paul Dorian

A heavy rain event is headed to the Mid-Atlantic region with as much as 3 or 4 inches on the table in some spots...

A cold front will stall-out in close proximity later today and low pressure will form along its boundary zone. As a result, showers and thunderstorms are likely to impact the region from later today into later Saturday...some of the rain will be heavy at times and some of the thunderstorms can be strong-to-severe with damaging wind gusts and possible hail. Another cold front will cross the region late tomorrow sweeping away the unsettled weather and it’ll turn drier on Sunday with plenty of sunshine to go along with windy and cooler-than-normal conditions for the first day of June. The first half of next week looks dry as well with increasingly warm conditions leading to high temperatures well up in the 80’s by mid-week.
