7:00 AM | *Low-to-mid 70's this afternoon...low-to-mid 80's on Sunday...much cooler air mass again by the middle of next week*

Paul Dorian

The warming trend that began at mid-week will continue today and afternoon temperatures are likely to peak in the low-to-mid 70’s. It does turn a tad cooler on Saturday, but then a surge in temperatures on Sunday could result in afternoon highs not far from the 85 degree mark. Looking ahead, we are not quite done yet with the cold shots from Canada and another such air mass featuring below-normal temperatures will arrive here by the middle of next week and stick around into the subsequent weekend.

1:30 PM | **Not quite done with the cold shots in the Mid-Atlantic region and overnight lows in the 30's...they'll continue into at least early May**

Paul Dorian

Temperatures could surge to 80 degrees this Sunday in parts of the Mid-Atlantic region, but as has been the case for much of the spring, this next warm up will not necessarily stick around for an extended period. In fact, signs point to another shot of cold air for the Mid-Atlantic region by the middle of next week and teleconnection indices suggest we may have to deal with unusually chilly air masses right into the first part of May with overnight lows in the 30’s.

7:00 AM | *Warming trend continues here today...~75 degrees on Friday afternoon*

Paul Dorian

A weak frontal system will approach the region later today, but with little impact and high pressure will re-establish itself in the Mid-Atlantic region on Friday. As a result, the warming trend that began yesterday will continue for the next couple of days and the nice weather pattern looks like it’ll continue into early next week. We are not quite done with the cold shots, however, as another air mass featuring below-normal temperatures is destined to arrive here by the middle of next week.

7:00 AM | *A warming trend and a nice stretch of weather begin today*

Paul Dorian

After a very chilly start to the week, a warming trend and a nice stretch of weather will begin today as high pressure builds into the area. Temperatures will climb into the 50’s this afternoon and then into the 60’s on Thursday ahead of the next cool front which will be rather weak and inconsequential. As a matter of fact, temperatures should climb to the 75 degree mark on Friday and it’ll stay warm this weekend as well.

7:00 AM | **Windy, cold today...much milder later this week with 75 degree highs on Friday**

Paul Dorian

A late season nor’easter continues to produce accumulating snow across interior sections of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast US and windy, cold weather in the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor. This system will lift into New England this morning and high pressure will gradually fill its shoes in our area late today into Wednesday. Milder weather returns later in the week and we’ll likely be flirting with the 75 degree mark again for highs by Friday afternoon.

1:45 PM | ***Significant storm to bring some heavy rain to the I-95 corridor, strong winds to coastal sections, and accumulating snow to the interior Mid-Atlantic/Northeast US***

Paul Dorian

A late season coastal storm will bring heavy rain to the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor from later today through tonight, strong winds and potential flooding to coastal sections and accumulating to snow to interior, higher elevation locations of the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast US. In fact, it is not out of the question that some of the northern and western suburbs of the big cities along I-95 see ice pellets or even snow mixed in at times during this unfolding coast storm. An unusually chilly air mass is in place across the northeastern part of the nation, jet streaks will form at multiple levels of the atmosphere, and a vigorous disturbance aloft will all contribute to the formation of a significant storm that will have a variety of impacts over the northeastern quadrant of the nation. Cold air outbreaks from Canada into the central and eastern states have continued unabated in recent weeks and it looks like they will continue into late April and likely the early part of May.

7:00 AM | ***Significant storm brings a cold, soaking rain to the region...snow not too far to the north and west***

Paul Dorian

Here we are in the second half of April and significant accumulating snow is on the table for later today and tonight across interior sections of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast US. Around here, a soaking cold rain is coming from later today into late tonight as a strong storm pushes to the northeast near and along the east coast. Snow will actually fall during this storm as close to us as the western parts of Virginia and Maryland with accumulations quite likely. It remains unusually chilly on Tuesday with partial sunshine and windy conditions. High pressure will return for the mid-week and it’ll turn milder with 75 degree highs returning late in the week.

7:00 AM | *Next cold front arrives late tomorrow and ushers in colder air for Sunday*

Paul Dorian

A cold front passed through the region last night and has ushered in cooler air to the Mid-Atlantic region for the end of the work week. An even stronger front will arrive late tomorrow possibly accompanied by showers and thunderstorms and its passage will usher in a colder air mass for Sunday. In fact, temperatures could start off the day on Sunday near the 40 degree mark in some spots and they’ll be confined to the 50’s for afternoon highs – quite a difference from the 80’s of the past couple of days. Low pressure will try to organize on Monday near the Mid-Atlantic coastline and it could produce some chilly rain around here and even some snow across interior sections of the Mid-Atlantic/NE US.

9:30 AM | *Much colder air mass arrives in time for Easter Sunday...interesting possibilities on Monday/Monday night from coastal storm*

Paul Dorian

Temperatures soared into the 80’s on Wednesday in much of the Mid-Atlantic and in many spots this was the first reading this season at those levels. A repeat performance is in store for today with afternoon highs again likely to be in the 80’s across much of the region, but this time, showers and strong thunderstorms will accompany the warmth. A cold front is sliding this was from the Ohio Valley and an even stronger cold front will arrive late Saturday with more showers and possible thunderstorms. That mid-weekend frontal passage will usher in a colder air mass for Sunday and much of next week will be on the cool side across the northern US. A coastal storm will form early next week and it is likely to result in accumulating snow for the interior sections of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast US.

7:00 AM | *Another very warm day, but the threat for showers will be on the increase and there can be a late day or early evening strong thunderstorm...colder for Easter Sunday*

Paul Dorian

A cold front will head into the eastern US today and it’ll stay very warm ahead of it with afternoon high temperatures near 80 degrees. The chance of showers will increase during the afternoon as the front approaches and there can be a late day or early evening strong thunderstorm. It’ll turn cooler on Friday behind the front, but still pretty nice as we close out the work week. Another front will cross the region on Saturday night and its passage will usher in a colder air mass for the second half of the weekend. In fact, high temperatures on Easter Sunday are liable to hold in the 50’s despite plenty of sunshine as high pressure takes control and much of next week looks to be on the cool side.
