The first half of the week will be cooler-than-normal in the Mid-Atlantic region with an upper-level trough of low pressure building aloft over the northeastern states. This system could help to spawn the formation of a low pressure over the western Atlantic which would enhance the chance of showers around here into mid-week and also keep a cool low-level flow of air well established. High pressure is likely to take back control later in the week and temperatures will remain on the comfortable side.

In fact, it looks like temperatures will remain at comfortable levels through the first half of next week in the Mid-Atlantic region with high generally in the 70’s. In terms of precipitation, a disturbance over the Great Lakes later this weekend will move in this direction and it can set off some shower activity around here late Sunday night and Monday. This system will help to generate low pressure nearby which can lead to more unsettled conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday to go along with those still comfortable temperatures.
One final note, the Perseid meteor shower peaks later tonight/early tomorrow…there will also be a full (super) moon to contend with in the southern sky.

After a sunny and warm day here at mid-week, southwesterly flow will increase tonight and begin funneling in a hotter and more humid air mass into the Mid-Atlantic region from the Tennessee Valley. In fact, temperatures on Thursday afternoon are likely to reach their peak for the week climbing to the middle and upper 90’s in the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor…maybe even a flirtation with the 100 degree mark in some spots.
