7:00 AM | *Back to near 90 degrees this afternoon with a chance of showers and storms*

Paul Dorian

High pressure was in control of the weather for the last couple of days, but it’ll push away today and a cold front will approach the region. This front will then stall nearby this weekend and weaken, but it could help to generate scattered showers and storms both later today and again this weekend.. High pressure moves back into the area early next week and we’ll experience quite warm weather conditions with highs near or even slightly above 90 degrees.

7:00 AM | *High pressure takes control and results in quite warm and rain-free conditions for the Mid-Atlantic region*

Paul Dorian

High pressure builds across the region today and will provide us with quite warm and rain-free conditions for the next couple of days. Another couple of frontal systems will approach the region late this week and during the early part of the weekend and there can be a shower or thunderstorm, but no widespread rain event is expected.

7:00 AM | *High pressure moves in for the mid-week*

Paul Dorian

Today will start off with some patchy clouds across the area and an afternoon shower or thunderstorm cannot be completely ruled out associated with a departing upper-level feature. High pressure will then push into the area for the mid-week providing us with generally warm and rain-free conditions on both Wednesday and Thursday.

7:00 AM | **Showers and thunderstorms likely today with an upper-level trough moving overhead* *

Paul Dorian

A large trough of low pressure will push into the northeastern states and generate unsettled conditions around here with the likelihood of additional showers and thunderstorms. Some of the rain can be heavy at times, watch for localized flash flooding. The chance of rain will remain on Tuesday, but it won’t be as high as today. High pressure moves into the area at mid-week generating generally warm and rain-free weather conditions.

7:00 AM | *A bit warmer today to end the work week with highs not far from 90 degrees...somewhat unsettled weekend*

Paul Dorian

Weak high pressure will push offshore today and a front will move nearby this weekend with a couple of low pressure systems likely to ride along the boundary zone. As a result, there will be somewhat unsettled conditions this weekend after another mainly sunny and warm day here on Friday. While much of Saturday and Sunday will be rain-free, a shower or thunderstorm is possible from time-to-time.

10:30 AM | *The lid is about to come off…a change from very quiet to very active is on the table with respect to tropical activity in the Atlantic Basin*

Paul Dorian

We have now passed the mid-point of the month of August and, so far, tropical activity has been considerably below-normal in the Atlantic Basin. In fact, activity across the northern hemisphere as a whole has been below-normal as measured by a metric known as the “accumulated cyclone energy” or ACE. There are signs, however, that the lid is about to come off in the Atlantic Basin where a big-time increase in activity is increasingly likely over the next few weeks and beginning as early as this weekend over the Gulf of Mexico.

7:00 AM | *Comfortably warm pattern continues in the Mid-Atlantic*

Paul Dorian

Temperatures will remain at moderately warm levels today in the Mid-Atlantic region with some sunshine and also the chance of PM showers and thunderstorms. Weak high pressure will take control of the weather on Thursday and it’ll turn a bit warmer as we head towards the upcoming weekend with highs in the 80’s. An upper-level trough of low pressure approaches from the west later in the weekend and that system will bring us a return of unsettled weather conditions.

7:00 AM | *Remaining pretty comfortable next couple of days for the middle of August*

Paul Dorian

Low pressure off the Mid-Atlantic coastline will help to keep a low-level flow of air off the ocean over the next couple of days and this, in turn, will help to keep temperatures at manageable levels for the middle of August. High pressure will take control of the weather for the latter part of the week and then conditions become unsettled once again during the latter part of the upcoming weekend.
