A stationary front will remain stalled out over Virginia for the next couple of days and its proximity will keep us somewhat unsettled with a continuing threat for spotty showers and thunderstorms in the Mid-Atlantic region. After a break in the wet weather pattern during the past few days, more showers and thunderstorms will return to the region today and some of the rain can be heavy at times. A warm front will push northward into the region today and then a cold front will settled southeastward across the area tonight and stall just to our southeast on Wednesday keeping us somewhat unsettled for the next couple of days. A secondary cool frontal system is sweeping through the Mid-Atlantic region this morning and it’ll usher in a comfortable air mass for the upcoming weekend. Humidity levels will drop noticeably later today and both days of the weekend should feature plenty of sunshine, comfortably warm conditions, and low humidity. The next front of note looks like it’ll arrive by the middle of next week with an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms from later Tuesday into Wednesday. Humidity levels will drop on Friday and the drier air mass will stay around right through the weekend anchored by strong high pressure to the north and west of here. An active weather pattern is setting up for the I-95 corridor for later today/early tonight extending all the way from the Carolinas to New England. There is an approaching vigorous wave of energy in the upper part of the atmosphere that will combine with diurnal heating and an advancing surface frontal boundary zone to destabilize the atmosphere over the next few hours and the result will likely be widespread showers and thunderstorms between about 2 and 9 PM in the I-95 corridor. Any storm that forms later today can produce torrential rainfall, flash flooding, and perhaps even damaging wind gusts. Looking ahead, a second frontal system will pass through the region early Friday and it’ll be followed by a much more comfortable air mass for the weekend with noticeably lower humidity levels.
