High pressure remains in control for the next couple of days providing us with plenty of sunshine and pleasantly warm temperatures reaching well up in the 70’s. A low pressure system and its trailing cold front will bring us a threat of showers from late Friday into Saturday and then Canadian high pressure to our northwest will take control of the weather for Sunday and Monday with plenty of sunshine, breezy, and a bit cooler conditions.

A weak cool front is passing through the region and it’ll have little impact on overall temperatures. In fact, with the help of some sunshine today, and plenty of sunshine on Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures should climb to well up into the 70’s each day. No big storms or strong fronts to deal with during the next few days as weak high pressure shifts offshore today and then a weak frontal system approaches the area tonight. There will be plenty of clouds around today and a few showers are on the table tonight as the weak front crosses the area. The next few days will be quite warm with highs well up in the 70’s on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and then low pressure may produce showers around here at the end of the week and early part of the weekend.

High pressure shifts offshore today and a warm front will lift through the area by tomorrow. As a result, temperatures will climb noticeably on Saturday likely reaching the lower 80’s by afternoon as another frontal system approaches the area. This next front will stall to our south on Sunday and it’ll be a cooler day compared to Saturday by some 10-15 degrees, but still relatively mild to close out the weekend.

A warming trend will begin today in the Mid-Atlantic region and temperatures should reach the lower 60’s this afternoon, well up into the 60’s on Friday, and then likely to near 80 degrees on Saturday afternoon. A cold front will slide through the region late Saturday and then stall to our south and it can cause a couple of showers in the area.

A secondary cold front passed through the region last night and has ushered in a chilly air mass for today and the winds will stay quite strong gusting up to 40 mph or so. The chill won’t last too long as a warming trend begins on Thursday and temperatures should reach the middle 60’s by Friday afternoon and likely to near 80 degrees by Saturday afternoon.

After a cold frontal passage in the overnight hours, the pressure gradient between the departing low and an incoming high pressure system will tighten today and the result here will be increasingly strong winds from a west-to-northwest direction...gusting to 45 mph or so. A secondary cold front will pass through the area this evening and it will usher in a chilly air mass for the mid-week with temperatures below-normal for the middle of April. It does warm up rather quickly later in the week and the first half of the weekend is likely to feature high temperatures in the upper 70’s although showers may be a threat on Saturday with an approaching cold frontal system.

We’re not quite done yet with the cold air intrusions into the northeastern part of the nation and the next strong cold front can produce some strong-to-severe thunderstorm activity tonight in portions of the southern Mid-Atlantic region with downpours, vivid lightning and damaging wind gusts on the table. Following the passage of a strong cold front, the winds will become a big factor on Tuesday and Tuesday night with gusts of 40 mph or so from a west-to-northwest direction. The risk of severe weather will increase this weekend across the nation’s mid-section as another clash develops between incoming cold, dry air to the west and warm, humid air to the east.

After a chilly and unsettled start to the weekend, high pressure edged back into the region on Sunday and this system shifts offshore later today and a warm front will lift through the area. A strong cold front then pushes across the region from later tonight into early Tuesday and a secondary cold front crosses on Tuesday night. Winds will become a noticeable factor on Tuesday following the initial frontal passage with gusts to 35 mph or so on the table from a west-to-northwest direction. It turns much cooler at mid-week with temperatures back to well below-normal levels, but much milder weather returns for the late week and especially for the beginning of the upcoming weekend.

Wet and unsettled weather will stick around in the Mid-Atlantic region through the first half of the weekend and the colder-than-normal temperatures will remain as well. Waves of low pressure will produce occasional showers here this morning and then steadier, heavier rain from this afternoon into Saturday and total amounts can reach an inch or more which is welcome news in the still somewhat dry Mid-Atlantic region. High pressure will resume control later in the weekend and it should turn milder early next week; however, another strong cold front will usher in a chilly air mass on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
