11:20 AM | **Strong-to-severe thunderstorm threat later today in the I-95 corridor**

Paul Dorian

An active weather pattern is setting up for the I-95 corridor for later today/early tonight extending all the way from the Carolinas to New England.  There is an approaching vigorous wave of energy in the upper part of the atmosphere that will combine with diurnal heating and an advancing surface frontal boundary zone to destabilize the atmosphere over the next few hours and the result will likely be widespread showers and thunderstorms between about 2 and 9 PM in the I-95 corridor.  Any storm that forms later today can produce torrential rainfall, flash flooding, and perhaps even damaging wind gusts. Looking ahead, a second frontal system will pass through the region early Friday and it’ll be followed by a much more comfortable air mass for the weekend with noticeably lower humidity levels.

Paul Dorian

A strong cold front will approach the region later today and it’ll increase the chance for showers and thunderstorms and some of the storms late today/early tonight can be on the strong side with heavy rainfall. A secondary cold front will arrive early Friday and it’ll usher in a much more comfortable air mass for the Philly metro region that will stay around this weekend. The drier air mass headed our way for the weekend will be anchored by strong high pressure to the north and west of here.

1:45 PM | *An active couple of days in the Mid-Atlantic region*

Paul Dorian

An active couple of days is in store for the Mid-Atlantic region with scattered showers and thunderstorms today and more widespread showers and thunderstorms later tomorrow.  There is a wave of upper-level energy setting off some powerful and slow-moving thunderstorms at mid-day along the Delaware River region of the Mid-Atlantic and an even stronger system will likely generate numerous showers and thunderstorms later tomorrow into tomorrow night.  Any of these thunderstorms can produce heavy rainfall and flash flooding given the well-saturated grounds.  Looking ahead, a beautiful air mass for August will arrive on Friday and provide comfortable weather conditions for the weekend.

7:00 AM | *No extended hot weather in sight...weekend could be refreshing for a change*

Paul Dorian

Weak high pressure to our north will be in control of the weather today and then a couple of fronts will head our way over the next few days. Humidity will rise on Tuesday ahead of the initial frontal system and then a stronger front approaches the area late Wednesday. As a result, the chance for showers and storms will increase on Tuesday afternoon/evening and then likely reach a peak late Wednesday when there will be a threat for strong thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Looking ahead, there is a pretty good chance for a nice refreshing air mass to arrive in the Mid-Atlantic region for the upcoming weekend anchored by high pressure to our north and west.

7:00 AM | *Threat for showers and thunderstorms continues today and Saturday*

Paul Dorian

A cool front has stalled out south of here and the result will be more unsettled weather as we head into the upcoming weekend. There is the threat for showers and thunderstorms both today and on Saturday and any storm can produce heavy rainfall. The front may slip southward some later in the weekend which should lead to a lessening chance of rain as we close out the weekend. Temperatures during the next few days should be confined to the 80’s for afternoon highs.

A cool front will stall out just south of here later today and lead to unsettled weather conditions as we close out the work week and head into the weekend. Odds favor mainly rain-free conditions today, but scattered PM showers and thunderstorms are possible and the chance will likely increase for Friday and Saturday. Any storm that forms over the next few days can produce heavy rainfall in a given area. Temperatures should be confined to the 80’s for afternoon highs during the next few days.

1:25 PM | ***Heavy downpours this afternoon/evening with strong-to-severe thunderstorm activity...tropical update***

Paul Dorian

The Mid-Atlantic region has experienced generally rain-free conditions over the past several days, but heavy downpours are on the table for this afternoon and evening.  A cool front is edging this way and the result will be slow-moving showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.  Any slow-moving shower or storm can produce heavy rainfall amounts in a relatively short period of time and some of the storms can reach severe levels potentially producing damaging wind gusts.  Given the still well-saturated grounds in the Mid-Atlantic region, any heavy rainfall can result in flash flooding conditions.

7:00 AM | **Strong-to-severe storms possible later today/early tonight with the potential of heavy downpours and damaging wind gusts**

Paul Dorian

A cool front will inch across the area later today and tonight and it will become the focus region for slow-moving showers and thunderstorms in the Mid-Atlantic region. Any storm that forms later today can become strong-to-severe with the potential of heavy downpours and damaging wind gusts. The front will stall out just south of here on Thursday and its proximity will keep us unsettled later this week and during the weekend. Temperatures will not be as warm today as they were during the past couple of days and highs will likely hold in the 80’s right through the upcoming weekend. Elsewhere, the eastern Atlantic is looking quite active and we may have a tropical storm to monitor in the western Atlantic around this time next week.

7:00 AM | *Hottest day of the week with highs in the 90's...shower/storm threat returns later today, tonight and Wednesday*

Paul Dorian

Today is likely to be the hottest day of the week with high temperatures in the lower 90’s along with plenty of sunshine and humid conditions. The chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase later in the day, continue tonight, and then rise even further on Wednesday as a cool front approaches from the northwest. Any thunderstorm that forms over the next 24-36 hours can produce heavy rainfall at times. This front will stall out later in the week just to the south of here and this will keep us unsettled for much of the second half of the week. After reaching the 90’s this afternoon, temperatures will likely be confined to the 80’s for highs during the remainder of the week.
