11:45 AM (Friday) | **Unseasonably warm weather today ahead of strong cold front…progressively colder this weekend…snow a threat in parts of the Mid-Atlantic late Sunday night/early Monday morning**

Paul Dorian

Unseasonably warm weather dominates the scene today in much of the Mid-Atlantic region with temperatures at mid-day ranging from the 70’s in DC to the 60’s in Philly while stubborn cool air is hanging on in NYC with temperatures in the 50’s. A strong cold front is closing in on the eastern states at this hour and will produce afternoon and evening showers and perhaps a strong-to-severe thunderstorm or two. Following the passage of the strong cold front later tonight, the weekend will become progressively colder as strong high pressure builds into southeastern Canada. By the end of the weekend, moisture will be advancing northeastward towards the Mid-Atlantic region and our entrenched cold air mass will be reluctant to give up its ground as high pressure slides toward the Canadian Maritimes. As a result, there is the chance for some snow or a mix of rain and snow in at least parts of the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor from later Sunday night into early Monday with significant snow possible across interior, higher elevations of the Mid-Atlantic and NE US.

7:00 AM | **Warmest weather so far this season today ahead of a strong cold front...progressively colder this weekend with some snow on the table for early next week**

Paul Dorian

A warm front pushed through the Mid-Atlantic region late yesterday and its passage along with an advancing strong cold front will set the stage for an unseasonably warm end to the work week. Ahead of the strong cold front, winds will pick up noticeably and temperatures should surge into the 70’s. In addition, showers are likely; especially, during the afternoon and evening hours and there can be a strong-to-severe thunderstorm mixed in as well. Following the cold frontal passage, it’ll turn progressively colder this weekend as strong high pressure builds to our north across southeastern Canada. By the end of the weekend, we’ll have to monitor the progression of moisture from the south-central US. Given that the entrenched cold air mass that will be reluctant to retreat, any precipitation that arrives late Sunday night or early Monday could be in the form of snow or a mix of rain and snow in at least parts of the region.

1:30 PM (Thursday) | *Unseasonably warm weather on Friday ahead of a strong cold front…progressively colder this weekend…some snow is a threat in parts of the Mid-Atlantic by early next week*

Paul Dorian

Tomorrow may turn out to be the warmest day so far this season in the Mid-Atlantic region with temperatures soaring to the 70’s in the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor ahead of a strong cold frontal system. In addition, there will be occasional showers; especially, during the afternoon and evening hours and perhaps a strong-to-severe thunderstorm or two mixed in as well. Following the passage of the strong cold front late Friday night, the weekend will become progressively colder as strong high pressure builds into southeastern Canada. By the end of the weekend, moisture will be advancing northeastward towards the Mid-Atlantic region from the Tennessee Valley and our entrenched cold air mass will be reluctant to give up its ground. As a result, there is the chance for some snow or a mix of rain and snow in at least parts of the Mid-Atlantic region early next week and significant snowfall may fall across upstate New York and New England.

7:00 AM | **70's on Friday ahead of strong cold front...progressively colder this weekend...some snow is on the table early next week**

Paul Dorian

A warm front is going to push northward through the Mid-Atlantic region today with scattered showers and its passage tonight will set the stage for an unseasonably warm end to the work week. A strong cold front is going to arrive here tomorrow night and there are likely to be some showers ahead of it and perhaps a strong thunderstorm or two. In addition, the winds will pick up noticeably on Friday and temperatures should soar into the 70’s following the near 60 degrees for highs this afternoon. Following the Friday night cold frontal passage, it’ll turn progressively colder this weekend and we’ll have to closely monitor the threat for precipitation by early next week as strong high pressure builds to our north across southeastern Canada. There is the chance that if the precipitation arrives early enough on Sunday night or early Monday, it could begin as snow or a mix of rain and snow given that the entrenched cold air mass will be slow to retreat.

7:00 AM | *Active pattern continues...more rain later tonight into early Thursday and some of it will be heavy...70's on Friday*

Paul Dorian

An active weather pattern continues across the nation and this will lead to more chances of rain in coming days and also quite a topsy-turvy temperature pattern. A weak cold front crossed the region late yesterday and high pressure will dominate the scene today providing cool and rain-free conditions. Low pressure and its attendant warm front will influence us with a soaking rain event from later tonight into early Thursday. A strong cold front is going to arrive here late Friday with additional showers, maybe even a strong thunderstorm. It’ll turn milder on Thursday and then windy and unseasonably warm on Friday ahead of the strong cold front with highs in the 70's. The late week frontal passage will pave the way for a colder weekend as strong, cold high pressure expands eastward across the northern US and southern Canada. We’ll have to monitor closely the threat for some snow by early next week as moisture pushes northeastward out of the south-central US and towards the Mid-Atlantic region with a cold air mass still in place.

1:35 PM | *70’s likely on Friday ahead of a strong cold front and, believe it or not, snow is on the table for early next week in at least parts of the Mid-Atlantic*

Paul Dorian

An active weather pattern continues across the nation and this will lead to more chances of rain for the Mid-Atlantic region and also quite a topsy-turvy temperature pattern. In fact, temperatures could climb well up into the 70’s on Friday in at least parts of the Mid-Atlantic region ahead of a strong cold frontal system. That cold front will usher in progressively colder air for the weekend and there is actually a chance for some snow early next week in the Mid-Atlantic region as moisture is likely to advance to the northeast and into a cold air mass that will be slow to retreat.

7:00 AM | *An active weather pattern will brings us multiple chances of rain this week...strong cold front arrives late Friday*

Paul Dorian

An active weather pattern continues across much of the nation and this will lead to more chances of rain in the Mid-Atlantic region and also quite a topsy-turvy temperature pattern. A weak cold front will cross the region later today and then high pressure will dominate the scene tonight and on Wednesday. Low pressure and its attendant warm front will then influence us with rain on Wednesday night and Thursday morning and some of it can be heavy at times. A strong cold front is likely to arrive here by late Friday with additional showers, maybe even a thunderstorm. It’ll turn milder on Thursday and then very warm on Friday ahead of the strong cold front, but its passage will pave the way for a colder weekend as strong, cold high pressure expands eastward across the northern US and southern Canada.

7:00 AM | *Chilly weather to start the new work week...showers possible late tonight/early tomorrow*

Paul Dorian

The week will start off with strong high pressure over southeastern Canada and this will keep us a bit on the chilly side with afternoon highs generally near the 50 degree mark (normal high now at Philly Airport is 52 degrees). The high will push off to the east by tonight and this will open the door to somewhat milder air, but also the chance of showers as the next arrives later tomorrow. It’ll turn warmer later in the week, but then a strong cold front arrives just in time to pave the way for a colder weekend
